The company Unmanned Life (UM Autonomous Systems) has decided to move its advanced robotics technology center from Brussels (Belgium) to Barcelona, to scale its operations in Europe. The hub of the British company develops advanced robotics technology that allows the management of large fleets of robots and drones. This innovative technology enables the creation of new solutions for smart cities and smart factories, as well as the advanced management of large infrastructures.

Founded in 2015, Unmanned Life has clients worldwide, mainly in Europe, for whom it will now work from the new facilities in Barcelona's 22@ district. The technology center will initially be staffed by the 15 employees already working there, but the company has announced that it will hire 20 more people, specifically software and robotics engineers, and will also create a sales and marketing team.

The CEO of Unmanned Life, Nicholas Zylberglait, explained this during a meeting in London with the Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent. Zylberglait specified that the climatic conditions in Catalonia are more favorable for drone flights than those in Belgium and highlighted access to qualified talent, the strength of the ICT sector, and a business-friendly environment as reasons for settling in Barcelona.

"We firmly believe that Barcelona is a leading technology hub from which we can grow and scale our operations in Europe. It is the perfect alliance with our London headquarters, where we will focus on international markets such as the Middle East and North America," Zylberglait stated, according to a press release from the Department of Business and Labor.

This is a new investment in industry 4.0 that chooses Barcelona for its expansion, after those already announced by the multinationals Festo, Pepsico, Microsoft, Essity, The Knot Worldwide, Alliance Healthcare and Veriff.

In this regard, Minister Torrent highlighted the importance of the Unmanned Life project because the British company works with the industrial fabric, with which it interacts directly, making this new investment especially strategic for Barcelona and Catalonia.

The people in charge of Unmanned Life know the technological ecosystem of Barcelona, a city where they participated in the latest edition of Mobile World Congress (MWC) and were one of the companies selected in the Startup Connection Hub held at the eDelivery Barcelona fair, in June 2020.
