More than 85,000 LED lights will shine this Christmas at the Moll de la Fusta, in the third edition of Nadal al Port. An overhead lighting will illuminate the entire space, becoming the central element of this edition, along with a 12-meter-high Christmas ball that can be crossed from the inside. From Thursday, December 9, until Thursday, January 6, the Port of Barcelona will offer a light show accompanied by music every night.
The terrestrial lighting will be complemented with Christmas motifs for access and traffic through the enclosure and lighting of the lampposts in the Moll del Dipòsit and the Paseo Joan de Borbó. On the maritime side, a nativity scene and the Star of the East will illuminate the water sheet while, moored at the Moll de la Fusta, the historic ships of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, the Pailebot Santa Eulàlia and the Far Barcelona, will be decorated for the occasion and can be visited. The maritime institution, which has invested some 196,000 euros in this initiative, expects to reach the 2.5 million visitors it gathered in 2019.
The third edition of Nadal al Port joins Barcelona's wide Christmas offer, which this year will premiere new lighting in Plaza Catalunya, Gran Via and Aragó street and will illuminate the modernist enclosure of Sant Pau for the first time. The Port of Barcelona does so with the aim of "contributing to the economic, social and cultural recovery of the city; consolidating the Moll de la Fusta as a meeting point that strengthens the relationship between the port and the city, and fostering maritime culture and heritage among citizens," expresses the president of the Port of Barcelona, Damià Calvet.
In addition to the lighting, Nadal al Port this year recovers the trade and gastronomy market that was organized in the first edition, as well as the 65-meter-high Ferris wheel and the traditional carousel, among others. Last Christmas, the pandemic forced a reduction in its format and these attractions could not be enabled.
Meeting point for neighbors
Nadal al Port will become in this edition a meeting point for entities and music schools from neighboring neighborhoods, which will fill the stage with different performances every day. There will also be a place to disseminate the activity carried out by the Port of Barcelona, bringing it closer to children through various initiatives. For example, the little ones can learn how waste is collected from the waters or become stevedores by moving cargo containers.
The activity carried out in the Port will be brought closer to the little ones and the music schools of the neighboring neighborhoods will fill the stage with different performances every dayLikewise, theSolidarity Container, the campaign organized annually by the Port Community of Barcelona to collect food, will have a prominent presence at this Christmas event. The idea is to bring this solidarity campaign, which is being held for the sixteenth consecutive year, closer to the people of Barcelona, in order to obtain the maximum number of economic contributions that will be transformed into food at the Food Bank. The collection will be made exclusively online through the Port de Barcelona website and fair visitors will find instructions on how to make their contributions.
Lighting of lights
The traditional lighting of lights will take place on December 9 at 6 p.m. The Port Vell will become the setting for the preview of the Liceo opera co-created with the Raval neighborhood, La gata perdida, performed by associations and entities from the neighborhood. The event will also feature performances on the historic ship Pailebot Santa Eulàlia and, of course, the lighting of lights itself, which will be carried out by a group of children.
