We bring you the most recent hotels in the city and how they reflect that cosmopolitan Barcelona open to exotic influences

september 22, 2025 - 16:20

September has crept up on us. And just this week ---as we see the relentless autumn peeking through the window---, we ask ourselves: How did it happen? Without giving us options to stay on the sofa, the first edition of the Barcelona Hotel Bar Week (from September 22 to 28) has just been presented to society. We could draw on domestic knowledge and review a few cocktail temples on the list of 25 establishments joining the initiative. But we wonder about the most recent hotels in the city and how they reflect that cosmopolitan Barcelona open to exotic influences. Gastronomic proposals with international roots (Peruvian, Japanese, global fusion…). What are the best cocktails and which terraces are the coolest and worth a visit?

Coming from the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, Paco Pineda arrived in Barcelona, a pioneer in cocktail technique in large hotels, where he started at thirteen as an apprentice. The Barcelona school added the first liquor shakings, the excellence of the 50s, that is, attention, rigor, and elegance, as customers of the first Sándor could verify for years. Then, the great cocktail bars: demiurges of liquid elixirs, psychologists and confessors of the soul, if not, poets of iridescent liquids. Now, good hotel cocktail making is a very normal thing.

Alcohol-free or alcoholic cocktails?

To extend summer, to remember it, or simply because we and Barcelona deserve it. These are the city's youngest, most modern bets, with those exotic winks that will make us remember a little bit of our vacation break.

Grand Hyatt Barcelona, the exoticism of Maymanta

Perhaps Menorca or Ibiza have been yourcrushsummer. If so, Maymanta is thatearthly paradisethat you deserve. The prestigious chef Omar Malpartida is at the helm of this new restaurant ---celebrating its first anniversary this month--- within the imposing Grand Hyatt Barcelona.

As executive chef of the space, Malpartida adjusts a versatile and ephemeral proposal, with all tastes and seasons of the year. Also owner of the successful Maymanta Ibiza (1 Sol in the Repsol Guide) and Kaypa in Menorca, in Barcelona you will find a constant evocation of the aromas and flavors of the Amazon and the three regions of Peru. The menu includes local and Peruvian ingredients as in an authentic picantería and cevichería. On its terrace you can try the corn and roka shrimp pancakes or the Lima croquettes (traditional Peruvian stew ají de pularda, creamy grana padano cheese, ají amarillo and onion ash).

In the liquid part, above all, as it could not be otherwise, the pisco sour stands out. The cocktails prepared for this week are Candela (with José Cuervo Tradicional, orange syrup, citrus water and dry vermouth) and the light version, Collin Farrell (Bushmill's, bitter soda and non-alcoholic vermouth).

The depth of Nobu Hotel Barcelona

For a few years now, Nobu Hotel Barcelona has been one of the most inspiring places in the city: the views from Nobu Bar to all of Barcelona are worth it. The five-star hotel ---inaugurated in 2019 by Robert de Niro's chain and sold to the ASG management company in 2021---hosts on its 23rd floor Nobu Matsuhisa's gastronomic restaurant, planetary reference of cuisinenikkei.

The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese gastronomy extends to its terrace menu, where one can order anything from a tuna tartare with kimchee, sesame, and soy to ceviches or tuna tataki skewers with yakiniku sauce. During Barcelona Hotel Bar Week, order the Once in Fuji (Aluzar Blanco infused with jalapeño, Sakura vermouth, yuzu and shiso cordial with citrus foam) or the Last Drop of Summer (Onikoroshi Sake, Gardeum, Vetive, and Peach Cordial), the two cocktails created for this occasion.

The postmodern cocktails of Hotel SLS Barcelona

The brand new Hotel SLS Barcelona, resortfive-star urban hotel in Port Fòrum and the brand's first hotel in Europe, has been, since its opening, a gastronomic hotel. Its flagship restaurant, Lora ---by Studio Paskin, the creators behind the successful Palomar and Evelyn's Table restaurants in London---puts the focus on the Middle East, bringing the flavors of Morocco, Tunisia, Greece, Egypt, Lebanon...

The counterpoint is the Catalan cuisine of the colorful L'Anxova Divina, an almost contiguous establishment. In its postmodern cocktail bar, Kyara, you will find the hand of Monica Berg and Alex Kratena, creators of the prestigious London bar Tayēr + Elementary, fourth on the list of The World's 50 Best Bars of 2024.

Their two signatures for this event are the Coffee + Pink peppercorn (Ketel One Vodka, Matusalem 15-year-old Rum, Ratafia, Acorn liqueur, Coffee, amber syrup and Monin pink pepper) and the Guava + Cypress (with an alcohol-free version), with traditional Jose Cuervo Tequila, gin, pisco, sherry, chinotto, guava cordial, mugo pine, Paragon vetiver and herbal bitter.
