We are approaching 2030 and we cannot say that, regarding the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations, nothing has been done, but from this week's conversation within the framework of the The New Barcelona – Moments Estel·lars cycle, one idea became clear to me: we should accelerate significantly to reach a decent percentage regarding the set purpose.
I was convinced of this by Esther Sarsa, Sustainability Partner at Miura Partners, who in conversation with Belén Viloria, Executive Director of B Lab Spain and the B Corp Movement (I will explain what these concepts are about later), formed a tandem that excites and generates contagion regarding a cause. What is theirs? Moving from purpose to action. That is, making it possible for the SDGs to go beyond a commitment, in their area of dedication, in companies.
And here, again, with a glocal perspective, in the terminology of Professor Manuel Castells, Barcelona leads a Catalonia that in turn hosts an internationally referential number of companies that join initiatives such as the B Corp Movement and are part of B Lab. The aim is to facilitate and certify that companies achieve goals and the incorporation of the SDGs, on their way to becoming truly sustainable, and thus contribute to the social progress that we collectively need to, together, try to save the planet. Or, at least, to stop "spending" it at the rate we are doing now, which is unsustainable.
They talk about values, milestones, and collective responsibilities, but as one of the attendees to the talk rightly said, they are an example (they and what they promote) of "little blablabla and a lot of chachachá." Chachachá, as a euphemism for movement. We need it, well directed and at a great pace. Professionals like Sarsa and Viloria focus us on this.
