The Barcelona restaurant group Nomo has already found the location it was looking for in the Eixample to open its fourth Japanese restaurant in Barcelona. It will be located in the former seafood restaurant Casa Dario on Consell de Cent street with Aribau and will open next June, according to Borja Molina-Martell, general director and co-founder of the group. The new Nomo Eixample will have two floors and, as major novelties compared to its older siblings in Gracia, Sarrià and Galvany, it will incorporate a cocktail bar and expand its menu with fish and robata dishes or those prepared on the Japanese grill.
According to Molina-Martell, the owners of Casa Darío wanted to retire and closed the historic seafood restaurant last September. After negotiating a transfer and taking over the premises ---which has about 600 m²---, the first works began in autumn and now the final phase of remodeling has been entered to be able to open in June. The street-level floor has a 380 m² room divided into three different spaces and with capacity for 120 diners. In the reception area is where a bar will be installed as a cocktail bar. The upper floor, Nomo Upstairs, will have about 100 m² and will open later, with a concept yet to be determined. The opening will mean the creation of 30 jobs in an initial phase.
The inauguration of this fourth restaurant in Barcelona is Nomo's big project for 2024, but not the only one. The group is finalizing for May the opening of a sushi corner inside the new supermarket that El Corte Inglés will inaugurate in the basement of the Aura building, the former El Corte Inglés on Francesc Macià, now converted into an office building. This is the second corner that Nomo will open hand in hand with the department store group, as it has another in the supermarket in the Diagonal center. In addition to sushi, other oriental cuisine specialties are sold for takeout, such as gyozas or yakisoba noodles.
Nomo's connection with El Corte Inglés is completed with Nomo Market, the restaurant that the Barcelona group has had since last year inside the Gourmet Experience on Goya street in Madrid. According to Borja Molina-Martell, this project is working satisfactorily, so they do not rule out opening more Nomo Market in other Gourmet Experience centers in the Spanish capital
New opening in Madrid in 2025
In addition to this location, in Madrid, Nomo has a restaurant on Bárbara de Braganza street and its goal is to open a third establishment in 2025. The idea is for it to be a place for about one hundred diners and with dimensions similar to those of the new Nomo Eixample, which will double the usual surface area of the group's restaurants. The company founded more than 15 years ago by the brothers Borja and Juan Molina-Martell, by their brother-in-law, Ramón Jiménez, and by chef Naoyuki Haginoya, closed 2023 with a turnover of 16 million euros, up 6.6%. Thanks to these new openings, it is now expected to increase the pace and the goal has been set to grow between 18% and 20% annually over the next three years, according to the general director. In the medium term, the group could consider making the leap to other provincial capitals such as Zaragoza or Valencia.
In addition to operating in Barcelona and Madrid, Nomo is present on the Costa Brava, in the towns of Llafranc (Nomo Mar and Far Nomo) and Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Nomo Nàutic). The business is completed with Nomomoto, the home delivery service, operating in the Catalan capital and in Madrid. With a staff of more than 200 people, Nomo has its offices on Londres street in Barcelona and has a training center on Calabria street, where its dessert workshop and the R&D kitchen-center where Nao Haginoya develops new dishes for the menu are also located.
