Heura Foods scores a new goal as a one hundred percent plant-based food brand and FC Barcelona will play in the healthy eating league through women's football. To win this double match to boost women's sports and promote a more sustainable food system, the company and the sports entity have reached an agreement. Heura has become a sponsor of Barça Femení for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2025.
For the plant-based company, founded by Marc Coloma and Bernat Añaños in 2017, the FC Barcelona women's team is a display of determination, nonconformity, and innovation, values in line with the company.
This alliance entails a series of commitments from both parties. On the one hand, Jonatan Giráldez's players will be the protagonists of the informative content that will be created and that will allow the public to discover and better understand the options offered by plant-based foods in the daily diet.
These informative capsules will be distributed through the club's digital channels, with the aim of making the public aware of the options of this type of diet. To define the publications, Heura's culinary, nutrition, and R&D teams will work hand in hand with FC Barcelona's experts on the most avant-garde ways to maximize nutritional performance. Plant-based diets are considered to be nutrient-rich and full of fiber, healthy fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
It so happens that this is not Heura's first relationship with football. Among the brand's private investors are footballers Saúl Ñíguez, Borja Iglesias, Chris Smalling, Sergi Roberto, and Cesc Fàbregas.
"This project will allow us to expand our reach to inform and empower people around the world about the benefits that a plant-based diet can have for the health and sustainability of our planet," defends Heura's CEO, Marc Coloma, about the agreement with Barça Femení.
After months of negotiation, the pact has been closed so that it can become effective before the start of the 2022/2023 Women's Professional Football League championship, on the weekend of September 11 and 12. The kick-off will be the celebration of the new edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy, next August 23, which will pit Barça Femení against Montpellier Hérault Sport Club, at which time all fans will find Heura brand plant-based catering options at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, in Sant Joan Despí.
Likewise, Heura Foods will have a presence on the stadium's LED panels during the team's matches, in addition to hospitality and association rights with the women's team.
The Johan Cruyff stadium, where Barça Femení plays, will incorporate catering points with Heura productsOn the part of FC Barcelona, the sponsorship aligns with the club's spirit to promote the power of sport in contributing to creating a better world. "With this collaboration, we can launch activities that help us move towards a better world and a more sustainable future", assures Juli Guiu, vice president of the marketing area of FC Barcelona.
The sports entity values Heura's presence in more than 18,000 points of sale in 20 countries around the world. With a strategy designed and marked to continue growing, Heura has focused on the expansion of the one hundred percent plant-based category throughout Europe.
In the first half of this year, Heura has increased its turnover by 93%, going from 7.6 million euros to 14.7 million euros. The brand has entered 1,500 new points of sale, both in Spain and in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy or France, and has added several agreements with restaurant chains and hotel companies such as Iberostar.
