Ebro foresees manufacturing 50,000 units at the former Nissan plant starting in 2027

Seat confirms at the Automobile Barcelona Show that Cupra's new urban electric model will bear the name of the Raval neighborhood and will be produced in Martorell

The historic Ebro brand will be reborn this year at the hands of four brands ---Btech, Jaton Racing, Api Brothers and Nexus Projectes--- with a new electric pick up that will be manufactured in the old Nissan plant in the Zona Franca and that will serve to provide work for the workers who became unemployed when the Japanese manufacturer closed. It will be in 2024 when the production of this model will begin, whose prototype has been presented at Automobile Barcelona, which starts this Thursday with the forecast of attracting 300,000 visitors.

The CEO of Ebro, Pedro Calef, has remarked that Thursday's presentation of the pick-up, which uses the lines of an old Nissan model and has a range of 400 kilometers, is "very emotional" because it represents the return to the factory that saw the birth of the Ebro brand in 1967 and which was later acquired by the Japanese automaker. "It is exciting that Ebro can be reborn in the same factory that it inaugurated," he said, according to ACN.

The brand plans to reach 50,000 units produced of all its models by 2027, among which there will also be a last-mile van. According to Calef, before starting production, the brand already has orders in five European countries.

The Ebro brand is part of a group of companies that won the tender to reindustrialize the Nissan factory. In total, there are about 1,200 former Nissan workers who are waiting for hiring to be reactivated.

The CEO of Ebro has sent a message of confidence to the employees: "The unions have collaborated a lot and the project has to go well. We have to transmit to them the confidence that they will recover their jobs as soon as possible."

Martorell will manufacture the Cupra Raval

The new small car that the Martorell plant will manufacture starting in 2025 will be the Cupra Raval, as confirmed by the president of Seat, Wayne Griffiths. The name, which had been strongly rumored for some time, reaffirms Volkswagen's commitment to promoting the Barcelona brand in the world. "The Raval is one of the most surprising parts of Barcelona. And, today, we are proud that the brand's future urban electric car bears its name and represents its spirit," Griffiths said at an event at Automobile Barcelona.
