DART celebrates a decade expanding through Barcelona

When it was born ten years ago, DART occupied a practically unexplored space in Barcelona: that of documentary cinema dedicated to visual arts. Since then, the festival has turned the big screen into a window to better understand contemporary art, its creators, and the debates that cross disciplines such as photography, design, architecture, or video art. On its tenth anniversary, the event goes a step further and expands its scope with a program that will leave cinemas to spread across different neighborhoods of Barcelona.

On this tenth anniversary, it also coincides with the World Capital of Architecture. This coincidence will mark a good part of this year's proposal, which will unfold from October 8 to November 25, with ten free screenings distributed throughout various districts of the city, and with part of the festival entirely dedicated to architecture.

The opening will itself be a declaration of intent: it will be on October 8 at the Casa de la Arquitectura, located in the former headquarters of Editorial Gustavo Gili. In addition, the inauguration will be held in collaboration with the Barcelona International Architecture Film Festival (BARQ), reinforcing the dialogue between two events that share the desire to explain architecture from a cultural perspective. Afterwards, the festival will land in various spaces of the city to explain art through the screen, in locations and with a program that have not yet been revealed.

This territorial extension is one of the great novelties of an anniversary that seeks to bring the festival closer to new audiences. While in its usual editions the bulk of the screenings are concentrated in a single venue, this year DART will invite spectators to explore Barcelona through cinema, turning different cultural facilities into meeting points to discover stories linked to buildings, architects, and movements that have left their mark on the way cities are inhabited.

The selection of documentaries will approach architecture from diverse perspectives: there will be space to revisit essential figures, explore currents that have marked the evolution of the discipline, and reflect on the role of built spaces in contemporary life. Beyond technique, the program presents architecture as an artistic and social expression capable of transforming the way we relate to our environment.

After this tour of the city, the festival will return to its usual format: from November 26 to 28, Cines Bosque will once again be the epicenter of DART with national and international premieres dedicated to visual arts and a schedule of parallel activities that will include meetings with filmmakers, artists, and professionals from the sector within the DART Lab program.

Thus, for almost two months, the city will become a decentralized screen where cinema will serve to view art from new perspectives. It will be a way to celebrate a decade of projected stories that, this year, also invite us to rediscover Barcelona through architecture and documentary, after ten years explaining art through cinema.
