Musical documentaries, DJ sessions, and open-air cinema. Sala Apolo and the In-Edit Festival join forces this summer to present the first edition of CineClub 113, an event that will take place every Monday in July and August at La (3) de Apolo and combines two artistic disciplines: music and cinema. In addition, in collaboration with number 113 of Nou de la Rambla, the restaurant La Porca will be in charge of the gastronomic section, offering a proposal for outdoor dining before or during the screenings.
Monday, July 6, marked the inauguration of the festival with the screening of La 42, the documentary winner of In-Edit Barcelona 2025, directed by José María Cabral, a piece set on a street in Santo Domingo that is barely 600 meters long and becomes the heart of dembow, survival, and urban art. And, after the screening, a DJ session with music inspired by the documentary that has just been viewed takes place.
July Program: From Santo Domingo to Cali to the rhythm of Latin music
Throughout July, the CineClub 113 program delves into the roots, evolution, and social impact of Latin rhythms. Its sessions invite you to cross the pond and discover the music created in areas ranging from the Caribbean to the Peruvian Amazon.
On July 13, La Danza de Los Mirlos will be screened, a journey into the heart of Amazonian cumbia and Peruvian "chichadelia" by Álvaro Luque. The documentary explains the trajectory of Jorge Rodríguez and Los Mirlos, who were creators of a unique sound that revolutionized tropical music. After the film, the event will continue with a session by Vitu Valera.
July 20 will be the turn of La salsa vive, a documentary directed by Juan Carvajal. It is a feature film that profiles the salsa route connecting Havana, New York, and Cali. This film features testimonies from Latin music legends such as Rubén Blades, Henry Fiol, or Willie Rosario. And, afterwards, the night's soundtrack will move to the turntables with Chica Acosta.
On July 27, En la caliente: Tales of a Reggaeton Warrior by Fabien Pisani will be screened. The director presents a portrait of the clandestine irruption of reggaeton in Santiago de Cuba in the nineties, in the midst of the Special Period, under the leadership of Kandyman. The musical closing of the night will be provided by Bichigyalli.
August in CineClub 113: The roots of club culture and electronic music
With the change of month, the CineClub 113 cycle will take a turn to focus on the subcultures of electronic music, working-class dance floors, and European and Caribbean musical resistance movements. On Monday, August 3, Esto es Raptor House by Roberto López Buschbeck will be presented. The filmmaker analyzes the birth and expansion of Caribbean techno-house created in the peripheral neighborhoods of Caracas; and, after the film, producer Phran will be at the controls of the DJ set.
August 10 will be the turn of Gabbers! by Wim van der Aar. This documentary portrays from within the fast-paced gabber subculture that shook the industrial foundations of Rotterdam during the nineties. The subsequent musical session will be led by VTRX KDDO. On August 17, Free Party: A Folk History directed by Aaron Trinder will be screened, a chronicle of the free party movement in rural England in the late eighties and nineties, with testimonies from historical collectives such as Spiral Tribe or DiY. The booth music after the screening will be signed by DJ ronni.
On August 24, Italo Disco: The Sparkling Sound of the 80s by Alessandro Melazzini will be shown, a project that traces the cybernetic rhythms and Mediterranean futurism of Italo disco. A journey that connects this musical style with cities like Munich or Chicago and bands like Daft Punk. The subsequent DJ set will be in the hands of Zonzo.
And, to close the cycle, on Monday, August 31, MaQKina: Historia de una Subcultura will be screened, a local documentary by Óscar Sueiro and Àlex Salgado that vindicates mákina music as a movement with working-class roots in Catalonia and the Valencian Community, recalling music temples such as Psicódromo, Chasis or Pont Aeri. The night will include a discussion with the directors and an after-party by the legendary DJ Ricardo F.
The Apolo Award is born: a new impulse for the music video
In addition to presenting this summer cycle, the In-Edit Festival and Sala Apolo have created the Apolo Award for Best Music Video. This is a new call whose main objective is to dignify and give visibility to the music video as a crucial artistic format within the current industry. In this way, its ability to build artists' identity and connect with audiences around the world is recognized.
Registrations for national and international creators remain open until September 1, 2026 and the finalist pieces selected by the professional jury will be screened during the 24th edition of In-Edit Barcelona (to be held from October 29 to November 8, 2026). The winner will be announced at the festival's closing gala.
CineClub 113 is the new cultural event of the summer in Barcelona. Documentary, music and dance will meet on Mondays at La (3) de Apolo, thanks to the collaboration of the venue with the In-Edit Festival.
