Barcelona will host the start of La Vuelta Femenina 2025

The city will gather cyclists next Sunday, May 4, on a route yet to be defined

Barcelona recovers its most cycling tradition. After filling streets two summers ago to cheer on the men's teams of La Vuelta 2023, this year it will be the turn to go out and applaud the women's teams. The third edition of La Vuelta Femenina will kick off in the Catalan capital next Sunday, May 4.

"The celebration of the start of La Vuelta Femenina 2025 reinforces Barcelona as a promoter of women's sports and consolidates the city's commitment to fostering cycling among Barcelona residents," said the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni. "The city cannot ignore the gender perspective in all major events linked to two wheels and it was fair to be the venue for the grand start of La Vuelta España 2025. Women's cycling is a reality: we can see it every weekend on our roads," added the Sports Councilor, David Escudé.

More details of how the start will be are not yet known, but Escudé has advanced that the second stage will run through the province of Barcelona. What spectators and also cyclists will expect is an improvement in the sensations of the start of La Vuelta 2023, with a team time trial that pedaled through a very dark Barcelona on a day of intense rain.

The choice of Barcelona for the start of La Vuelta Femenina 2025 consolidates its recently recovered leadership in the world of cycling. "We want to be the international capital of sport for the benefit of the progress of Catalonia and Spain as a whole, and the presence of the best cyclists in the world in the city will be another step towards achieving this goal," Collboni remarked.

It was in 2023 when the Catalan capital saw La Vuelta start again more than 60 years after the last and only time it had done so until then. The two stages that ran through the city and other towns such as L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Cornellà de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, Sabadell and Manresa made residents, who easily embrace sporting events, vibrate, as could be seen recently with the Formula 1 exhibition on Paseo de Gràcia.

All this will be the prelude to the Grand Départ of the Tour de France scheduled for July 2026, which will kick off three stages that will be held in Catalonia. The benchmark cycling competition will depart for the first time from the capital, an international showcase that the city had been pursuing for years.
