Barcelona occupies the fourth place in the list of the most attractive cities in the world to work in, only surpassed by London, New York and Berlin.
This is one of the conclusions offered by the report “Decoding Global Talent” just published by Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which analyzes the opinion of thousands of workers around the world on international labor mobility. In the survey to carry out this study, a total of 366,139 employees from 197 different countries participated.
15% of the workers surveyed would be willing to move to Barcelona to work. The leading city in this ranking is London, cited by 22% of respondents. New York is second (16%) and Berlin third (15%).
Barcelona, which has won three positions on the list compared to the ranking of the previous edition of the report (prepared in 2014), exceeds the cities of Amsterdam (14%), Dubai (12%), Los Angeles (11%), Paris (11%), Sydney (9%) and Tokyo (8%), which complete the list of the ten cities that are most attractive to work for employees around the world.
One of the positive points highlighted in the report on the city of Barcelona is its ability to respond to the labor needs of technology companies, for example those that open R & D centers. This is also the case of cities such as Tel Aviv, Abu Dhabi or Hyderabad.
The Spanish capital, Madrid, is ranked number 11 on the list, ahead of Toronto, Vienna, Abu Dhabi and Singapore.
The most attractive countries
The study also analyzes which countries are more attractive to go to work. In this case, the ranking is headed by the United States, cited by 34% of the respondents. The second country is Germany (26%) and the third is Canada (24%).
Spain ranks sixth in the ranking (14%), surpassed by Australia (21%) and the United Kingdom (20%). Spain is ahead of France (14%), Switzerland (13%), Italy (11%) and Japan (10%), which completes the list of the ten preferred countries. In the 2014 study, Spain occupied the eighth place, so it has gained two positions in the last four years.
The study reveals that the desire to go to work to another country has decreased in recent years. Thus, in this year’s survey, 57% of participants would be willing to move to another country to work, which is a drop of 7 points compared to 64% who had been willing to change in the 2014 survey .
