This has been a difficult week for Mango after its founder, Isak Andic, died in a mountain accident last Saturday. After a massive farewell from the staff, the fashion company has clarified its future in a practical way by naming Toni Ruiz, until now vice president and CEO, as the new president. The executive assumes the position temporarily, according to the company, which has detailed that it will appoint a "proper succession" to Andic "in due course."
Mango emphasizes that its corporate governance structure is "solid and fully defined" and guarantees that it can "give continuity" to the strategic plan they have in place. "The death of Isak Andic does not imply a change in the company's governance structure, which has the appropriate mechanisms to guarantee perfect business continuity," they maintain, adding that Ruiz is "the architect of the transformation" of the company and one of the leaders of the current strategic plan.
Ruiz joined Mango in 2015 as financial director and, three years later, was appointed general director. In early 2020, he was promoted to CEO of the firm based in Palau-solità i Plegamans. Since last year, he owns 5% of the shares.
With a degree in Economics from the University of Barcelona (UB) and a master's in Economics and Business Management from IESE, the executive began his professional career at Leroy Merlin Spain, where he worked for more than 15 years in different positions, including financial management.
