The third week of September presents a great variety of plays that move between historical reflection, political commitment, and original musical proposals.
From September 21 to 27, Barcelona's billboard is filled with prominent names like Mario Gas, but also with local artists such as Pep Cruz, Marta Marco, or Jordi Cornudella to talk about the family abysses left by dictatorships or to present satires about the theatrical profession.
No miris at Teatre La Biblioteca
Teatre La Biblioteca will host No miris from September 22 to October 18, a play by the platform Cultura i Conflicte based on real events and presented in the format of a dramatic thriller. Interpreted by Pep Cruz, Marta Marco, and Erol Ileri, the proposal delves into the borders that exist between political commitment, betrayal, silence, and the transmission of trauma.
The plot takes as its starting point the experience of Verónica Estay Stange, daughter of those repressed by the Chilean dictatorship and niece of Miguel Estay (El Fanta), a well-known collaborator of the regime. The play addresses how pain and family wounds transcend decades after authoritarian regimes in Spain or Latin America, and questions the fragility of democracies and the mechanisms that lead to horror.
Tot fent 'La bella Helena' at Lliure de Gràcia
The Teatre Lliure de Gràcia will present Tot fent 'La bella Helena' from September 23 to October 18, the new proposal written and directed by Miquel Mas Fiol. The creator brings together a cast formed by Sergi Boqué, Jordi Cornudella, Gerard Franch, Carme Milán, and Lluís Oliver to reflect on the strength of collective work versus the individuality imposed in today's world.
The comedy follows the steps of a company of young actors who want to break with the inertia of social networks. To achieve this, they undertake the task of restaging La bella Helena, the historic production that Teatre Lliure itself premiered in 1979. Thus, this proposal is also a declaration of love for scenic craftsmanship and cultural resistance.
Mario Gas at Sala Beckett with El pesimismo alegre (Mi suicidio)
The Sala Beckett will host from September 25 to October 11 the monologue El pesimismo alegre (Mi suicidio) [Joyful Pessimism (My Suicide)], by Mario Gas under the direction of Fernando Bernués (Tanttaka Teatroa). It is an adaptation of the text by the Belgian anarchist pedagogue Henri Roorda (1870-1925), which he wrote on the eve of his own death.
Despite its starting point, the proposal is not presented as a tragic story, but as a humorous defense of the beauty of existence, pleasure, love, work, and social dynamics. Gas embodies this libertarian mathematician to make a defense of life, where ideas and lucidity coexist with the pleasure of everyday things.
Després de nosaltres, a musical at Espai Texas
The Espai Texas presents from September 22 to November 15 the premiere of Després de nosaltres [After Us], a musical written and directed by Jumon Erra with original music by Miquel Tejada. Starring Júlia Jové and Xavi Navarro, with live music by Andrea Mir on keyboards, the production offers ninety minutes reflecting on the possibility of maintaining contact after a romantic breakup.
A year after ending their relationship, a soundtrack composer and a cultural manager try to keep their promise not to lose their bond. The comedy explores how difficult it is to care for each other in a society that lives at full speed. The small-format musical questions the space we give to love versus profession and life in the city.
Indio de mierda at Sala Fènix
The Sala Fènix will program from September 25 to 27 Indio de mierda [Shitty Indian], a show by the Chilean company Núcleo de Creación Armada written by Iñaki Goldaracena and directed by Diego Hernández A. Performed by actress Cata María Prieto, the monologue aims to give voice to multiple characters to unravel a conflict that combines rage, discomfort, and irony.
The play starts from a violent incident at the school of Mariana, a Chilean woman living in Spain. Prieto multiplies on stage to embody a gallery of figures involved in the conflict: from the migrant mother herself to representatives of the school institution. This display allows for a fragmented plot where prejudices, guilt, and historical resentment collide.
This week, Barcelona's theaters will give voice to collective memory, small-format musicals, and big names in the scene. An ideal opportunity to go to the theaters and doubt, laugh, and question reality from the front row.
