The month of September starts strong on Barcelona's theater billboard. After a few weeks of certain theatrical calm, the first week of the season presents some of the most anticipated revivals, such as the re-premiere of La primera llei de Newton or the fourth consecutive season with the success of Lolita under the skin of the maid Poncia, by García Lorca.

Funny comedies, proximity theater, great tributes, and contemporary adaptations are the proposals we find this week in the city's venues.

Desaparellats at Espai Texas

From August 25 to September 20, 2026

Esther López (from La Calòrica) and Ricard Farré (known for his role in the hit Les dones sàvies) star in this crazy and tender comedy about second chances and life's transcendental decisions. Written by Ramon Pardina, who is also a scriptwriter for Andreu Buenafuente and Quim Masferrer, and directed by Roc Esquius, the story follows Ton and Anna, a couple trapped in routine who discover a door to a parallel universe in their bathroom. There they will find different versions of themselves that will make them question if the life they lead is really the one they want.

Consulta familiar at El Maldà

From September 2 to October 4, 2026

After selling out tickets at the Grec Festival de Barcelona, this proximity theater proposal returns to El Maldà. It is the debut on the Barcelona billboard of the Mallorcan playwright Marga Arrom.

Consulta familiar is a play that talks about family relationships through Sílvia, a woman who goes to therapy to manage her relationship with her mother, just before Christmas. Everything gets complicated when the lives of the patient, the therapist, and the mother intertwine in a web of secrets, misunderstandings, and uncomfortable confessions.

El hijo de la cómica at Teatre Romea

From September 2 to October 4, 2026

José Sacristán returns to the Barcelona billboard with his emotional and intimate tribute to the figure of the actor, director, and writer Fernando Fernán-Gómez. Through a monologue based on memory, experiences, and shared dialogues between the two over the years, Sacristán gives voice to the childhood memories, fears, dreams of freedom, and family roots of his remembered friend. A proposal that invites spectators to take a nostalgic journey to recover the voice of one of the great names in culture.

Poncia at Teatre Goya

From September 2 to September 27, 2026

Written and directed by Luis Luque based on Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, this show places Poncia (Lolita Flores) in the midst of a sea of silence and fog, just after Adela's death. Through reflections, soliloquies, and dialogues with shadows, the maid analyzes guilt, social class, education, freedom, and sex from the perspective of the mistreated and silenced popular classes.

Newton's First Law at La Villarroel

From September 2 to October 4, 2026

Eu Manzanares' new text, directed by Nelson Valente, returns to the billboard. After its success within the framework of Grec 2026, this story returns, posing an educational dilemma about ethics, inequality, and opportunities.

The plot places us in a recently awarded high-complexity institute that is shaken when it is discovered that Izan, a student about to graduate, has cheated on a subject. The pressure from the young man's mother to obtain the ESO degree and the arrival of a journalist will test the principles of the teaching staff.

Written and directed by Sergi Belbel, this piece portrays with acidity, irony, and a sense of humor contemporary alienation and the pitfalls of the capitalist system. Enric Cambray and Àgata Roca embody this story that talks about the challenges and headaches of an intelligent and sensitive woman who decides to break with the established order of bourgeois society.

The tobacconist of Raval at Sala Fènix

From September 2 to September 20, 2026

The company Pecado Tarambana presents at Sala Fènix a contemporary adaptation of the 80s dramaturgy classic La Estanquera de Vallecas by José Luis Alonso de Santos, moved to the current context of the Raval neighborhood.

The play addresses themes such as job insecurity, poverty, and meritocracy through a robbery at a tobacconist that gets complicated. The conflict erupts when, unexpectedly, a certain empathy is created between the two assailants, the tobacconist, and her granddaughter.
