Going to a movie theater is the best option to enjoy a good film, but companies in the sector must reinvent themselves to ensure their future and reach new audiences. Cines Verdi leads this process of diversifying its business model, a trend that has been accentuated as a consequence of the pandemic and the emergence and generalization of film and series consumption through streaming platforms.

A few months ago, the Verdi cinemas jumped onto the Internet with the launch of Sala Virtual de Cine, a pay-per-film platform that allows extending the exhibition period of films when they are withdrawn from the billboard and to which any movie theater in Spain can adhere. Now, the subsidiary of the A Contracorriente Films group has allied with Samsung to launch two television channels that will be available on all smart TVs or those with an Internet connection from the Korean consumer electronics brand.

The channels created by Cines Verdi will be hosted on the free content platform Samsung TV Plus. Specifically, cinephiles will be able to access the Cines Verdi TV channel and the Cine Feel Good Verdi TV channel, which will offer for free an extensive catalog of films of all genres, both auteur cinema, in the first case, and the so-called feel good cinema or cinema to feel good, one of the specialties of the distributor A Contracorriente Films.

Samsung Smart TV users will be able to access these channels in two ways: they can follow the content that will be offered uninterruptedly for 24 hours or through an on-demand service where they can choose at any time the movie they want to watch from the comfort of their home sofa.

"We want to bring viewers free but carefully curated and selected programming, as the Verdi cinemas have been doing for more than 33 years; we believe that these channels will offer a type of film not found in any of the existing services," says Eduardo Escudero, director of the company Gestión de Contenidos Virtuales.

The emblematic cinemas on Verdi street have belonged to A Contracorriente Films since 2014; the chain also operates in Madrid and collectively manages 26 screens. The A Contracorriente group, based in Barcelona, had a turnover of 26 million euros in 2019 and is considered the main Spanish-capital film distributor.
