The Sant Jordi fills up for Valencia with Serrat and Estopa

More than 15,000 people thrill with the return of the singer-songwriter, who ended up singing with those from Cornellà

Serrat has learned that it's better not to say never. If two years ago he bid farewell to his audience at the Palau Sant Jordi forever, that same stage saw him return to sing this Friday some of his best classics, in top form, without it being noticeable that some time had passed since his farewell.

The cause was worth it, to support a Valencia devastated just a month ago by the DANA. Serrat's return to the stage, accompanied by some of his loyalists like Ricard Miralles and Kitflus, has managed to raise a total of 775,000 euros, destined entirely to the Red Cross to assist the victims. The luxury lineup was completed by Estopa, extending their 25th anniversary tour a bit, and a female trio as powerful as Andrea Motis, Lucía Fumero, and Judit Neddermann.

More than 15,000 people filled the Sant Jordi on a day that felt like a gift, listening to Serrat again. Starting punctually with Cançó de Bressol, Cantares, Temps era temps, Para la libertad, Pare... had to be played. And, although someone might think that it was necessary to close with Mediterráneo, the singer-songwriter preferred to dedicate his infallible Paraules d'amor to the Valencians.

Before starting with Estopa's performance, who even have their own statue in their Cornellà, it was the female trio's turn. Motis, Fumero, and Neddermann dazzled with a display of power that could handle the trumpet, the violin, and whatever else, drawing on a sincere complicity full of meaning and remembering Raimon, as Serrat also did.

The Muñoz brothers closed the night starting, as always, with a slogan as effective as "Esto pa' Valencia" (This for Valencia). Amidst so many tributes, David and José are still at it, not showing an ounce of tiredness even when they are named Men of the Year. Coincidentally, Los Chichos were playing a few meters away this Friday, so when El del medio de los Chichos played, it felt different. As if that weren't enough, Serrat returned to the stage to sing Me'n vaig a peu with them. Until now, they had only coincided at the Grec, very nice, Estopa said, but not as big as the Sant Jordi this Friday, indirectly criticizing the Romans for copying the Greeks.
