The owners of Maremagnum, the French shopping center group Klépierre, will invest 15 million euros in remodeling and repositioning the Port Vell shopping center, with an eye on the arrival of the Time Out Market gastronomic market starting in 2024. The budget will be mainly allocated to renovating the roof that Time Out will occupy, where workers have already begun to work.
"The agreement with Time Out Market is a first step towards the repositioning of the center," states the company that owns Maremagnum. The project will include fourteen kitchens, a full-service restaurant, and four bars, two of them outdoors. There will also be a space and stage for events, a radio studio, and an outdoor terrace with panoramic views of the city, the port, and the sea.
The Time Out Market in Barcelona will be the first in Spain and the second in Europe. The initiative began in Lisbon in 2014 and continued in Miami, New York, Boston, Montreal, Chicago, and Dubai. Soon, new markets will open in Porto, Cape Town, and Vancouver.
The investment announced by Klépierre will allow the commercial area to be increased by more than 5,000 square meters, where new brands can be installed, as well as developing new accesses to reach the viewing terrace where the gastronomic market will be located. Construcia will be the company in charge of the works, which are expected to finish by the end of the year.
The works on the Maregnum terrace coincide with the demolition of the Cinesa cinemas. The demolition of this building, a concession from the Port of Barcelona to Klepierre, began in October 2021. This action is one of those planned for the America's Cup. The space that remains free will be allocated to the base of one of the teams, the Swiss Alinghi Red Bull Racing.
