Barcelona residents have multiple ways to celebrate the Christmas holidays, and one of them is also to view them through the prism of contemporary art. The Macba proposes taking advantage of these dates to connect with the languages of art of our time, guided by artists who interpret the world from their respective singular and transformative perspectives.
Thus, the Museu Possible invites visitors to explore universal questions and issues through art during the holidays, both through its exhibitions and through its guided tours and family experiences.
Those who visit the Macba during these holidays will delve into the world of Teresa Solar Abboud and her large sculptural installations. Her sinuous forms address the resistance of language and the morphology of speech in the exhibition Dream Bird Machine, which can be seen at the museum until March.
The colorful, dynamic, and activist universe of Mari Chordà also unfolds at the Macba during these dates and until January 12. Her feminist struggle and her effort to make visible the role of women mark her work, pioneering in defending free sexuality.
And from Chordà's imaginary, to Barcelona's reality, with the exhibition An Unknown City Under the Fog. New Images of Barcelona's Neighborhoods. Also until January 12, the Macba reviews the reality of the neighborhoods that emerged from the post-war migratory wave, through a project that draws on the perspective of 13 photographers.
The holidays are also a good opportunity to immerse oneself in the collective exhibition Prelude. Poetic Intention, conceived as a new approach to the Macba collection. The museum space and its relationship with the works and with art are also addressed through the new presentation of [contra]panorama, which brings together five commissions produced expressly for the project that seek to denaturalize the museum space, focusing on its protocols, working conditions, rules, and infrastructures on which the museum framework is built.
And the museum is transformed with Lunar Ensemble for Rising Seas, an immersive work that recreates an constantly evolving ecosystem. Composed of about forty large-scale sculptures, the work represents extravagant, hybrid, and fantastic creatures created by Petrit Halilaj and Álvaro Urbano.
To delve into the museum's proposals and their interpretation, the Macba offers guided tours included in the ticket price for several of its exhibitions. During these holidays, on Fridays, visitors can delve into Chordà's work, while on Saturdays it will be the turn of Colección Macba. Preludio. Intención poética, and Sundays will feature the exhibition on Teresa Solar Abboud as the protagonist.
The museum, which offers reduced and free ticket options and free access on Saturdays from 4 p.m., also looks at contemporary art from above, with a visit to the Macba spaces that includes the Mirador Tower. The space, previously closed to the public, offers 360-degree views to see the Raval and the city from a new perspective. The visit intertwines this unique panorama with the art and history of the museum's spaces, to understand the present of the space and the city.
Family proposals
The Macba also invites you to delve into contemporary art as a family. On Saturday mornings, it offers activities such as UAU!!, which turns the museum into a labyrinth of storytelling spaces, and Mover y conmover, which plans to explore the museum through play and body activation.
In addition, the museum has a family and reading space. In it, visitors can share a play space but also a time for rest, learning, and relaxation, exploring publications about the artists and their works. Visitors can take contemporary art home as a gift for themselves or for others during these dates.
