The KBr photography center expands beyond its walls and reaches the Port Olímpic

The Mestral dock fills with images in the first exhibition organized by the Mapfre foundation and the Barcelona City Council

Photographic portraits have invaded the Mestral dock, one of the pieces of the renovated Port Olímpic. A new open-air exhibition space has been installed in Barcelona, thanks to the KBr photography center of the Mapfre foundation. Its headquarters in the city are very close, on the ground floor of the Torre Mapfre, and now it will expand beyond its walls thanks to an agreement with the Barcelona City Council.

Over the next three years, an annual exhibition will be organized, with images from the shows that can be seen inside the KBr photography center, as well as from the Mapfre foundation's collection. They will be located on the Mestral dock, but it is also contemplated that they will be temporarily installed on the Gregal dock. The first exhibition includes about twenty portraits by photographers such as Cristina García-Rodero, Anna Malagrida, Paul Strand, and Harry Callahan. The program will continue with other names such as the young Colombian photographer Felipe Romero or the master of street photography Helen Levitt.

In addition to the exhibitions, jazz concerts and dance performances will be organized, thanks to the Liceu conservatory and the Institut del Teatre. The first is scheduled for December 15, with music inspired by French jazz from the mid-20th century. There will also be educational workshops, which will take place on weekends every two weeks, with the aim of bringing photographic language closer to the little ones. They will start in February 2025.
