Lidl will build a warehouse in Constantí (Tarragonès), with the forecast that it will become operational starting in 2026. The German supermarket chain has acquired a plot of about 185,000 m² in this municipality to build a new logistics platform with the aim of guaranteeing its expansion in Spain. According to sources from the chain, this initiative will generate wealth and local employment.

This project joins the three warehouses that Lidl plans to open by 2025: the first in Escúzar (Granada) --under construction, on a plot of more than 132,000 m²--, followed by another in Martorell (Barcelona) and another in Parla (Madrid), both pending the start of works on plots exceeding 126,000 m² and 145,000 m², respectively.

The mayor of Constantí, Oscar Sánchez, has expressed himself "very satisfied with the arrival of Lidl in the municipality," reports ACN. Sánchez adds that the council considers it a priority "to continue working to attract new investments and favor the arrival of new companies that, like Lidl, can generate employment for our neighbors." In this regard, he emphasizes that "the opportunity offered by large companies like Lidl and their determined commitment to Constantí endorse the work being done."

"In recent years, we are significantly expanding our presence in Spain thanks to the opening of new stores, a reality that also requires us to increase our logistical infrastructure with new centers from which we manage our entire product assortment," comments the general director of Expansion of Lidl Spain, Imanol Zabala, who adds that "since 2019 we have launched three warehouses in Cheste (Valencia), Agüimes (Las Palmas) and Nanclares de Oca (Vitoria), and in the future we plan to open four more in Escúzar, Martorell, Parla and Constantí."

The future warehouses in Martorell and Constantí will join the one Lidl has had since 2003 in Montcada i Reixac (Vallès Occidental), a town from which the supermarket chain mainly supplies its more than 70 points of sale in Catalonia and where it also has its central offices for the Spanish market, currently in the process of expansion, with an investment of 19 million. With the commissioning of these three centers, Lidl wants to reinforce the strategic role of Catalonia as a reference logistics hub for growth in this area and in the northeast of the state.

Lidl currently has a structure of about 120 stores, a logistics platform, and a central office in Catalonia that already employs around 3,900 people. The company buys Catalan products worth about 690 million euros annually from more than 170 suppliers, exporting practically a third of these purchases to some thirty countries. With this volume of activity in the region, Lidl is responsible for more than 22,800 direct, indirect, and induced jobs ---0.68% of the total--- and contributes over 1,090 million euros annually to the GDP, 0.56% of the total.
