The Breega fund establishes itself in Barcelona with 250 million to invest

The Barcelona office will be the third for the venture capital firm, after those in Paris and London, with an interest in investing in 20 innovative companies in the insurance and finance sectors and in Web3 and social impact solutions

The entrepreneurial ecosystem, innovation, and technology found in Barcelona have been decisive for the investment fund Breega to establish itself in the Catalan capital, to continue contributing to the development of emerging companies, with special attention to the insurance and finance sectors and projects linked to the new era of the Internet that have a social impact. For this reason, Breega has just launched its fourth investment fund with resources of 250 million euros, which it plans to allocate to a minimum of 20 emerging companies.

For the Paris-based venture capital, Barcelona will be the starting lever to grow in Southern Europe, specifically in Spain and Portugal, but also the springboard to reach South America. The Barcelona office, the third after Paris and London, is led by partner and Head of European Venture, Isabel Gallo, who will initially work with three people, to eventually form a team of professional advisors who accompany companies. "We are seeing many very promising tech startups and we are especially interested in helping those looking to address the Latin American market where we see great expansion opportunities," says the head.

Among the investments already made in the Iberian Peninsula are the Spanish proptech Ukio, which offers furnished apartments for monthly stays; the Portuguese employee benefits and insurtech platform Coverflex; and the Spanish fintech investment platform, Ninety-Nine.

The landing in the Catalan capital coincides with the creation of a new 250 million euro venture capital fund, which will be used to finance high-growth European companies from Series A rounds. Since its foundation in 2015, by Ben Marrel and Maximilian Bacot, the fund has accumulated resources of 500 million euros, with which it has supported 70 companies in seven countries.

According to Ben Marrel, co-founder and CEO of Breega, "this fourth capital fund will finance companies that are in the Series A phase or more advanced, but will also serve to support our portfolio startups as they grow," as has already been done with successful projects such as Keebo (English fintech), Mila (French insurtech) and the aforementioned Spanish proptech Ukio.
