The family supermarket group Sorli is advancing in its diversification process in the field of health and well-being. The company has announced that next June it will open the first Sorli Sport premises in Barcelona, a chain of sports centers with which it already operates in the towns of Badalona, Sant Vicenç de Montalt, Vilassar de Dalt, and Sitges. The gym will have a total area of 2,000 square meters and will create twelve jobs.

To make this project a reality, Sorli has acquired the unique building that for decades housed a Seat brand dealership in Plaça Cerdà. It is a three-story, rectangular-structured property located at the confluence of the square with Gran Via and Paseo de la Zona Franca. It so happens that in that same location is one of Sorli's largest supermarkets in Barcelona, a 1,200 square meter establishment practically next to the building that will now house the gym. According to the company, the project will involve an investment of 7 million euros and its opening is scheduled for June. Sorli bought the building directly from Seat.

With this opening, Sorli Sport will have six centers, all under a concept that integrates the sports space and a supermarket with the idea of "fostering a health and nutrition ecosystem." The new facility in Plaça Cerdà will be equipped with state-of-the-art training machines and will also offer guided activities, personal training, fitness, calisthenics, and wellness services such as nutrition, spa, aesthetics, and physiotherapy.

Superficies de Alimentación, the company that owns Sorli supermarkets, announced last year, coinciding with its centenary celebration, the launch of a new expansion phase in which it planned to invest 30 million euros. This figure, they explained, will be allocated to the construction of a new logistics warehouse in Granollers and to new openings, both of supermarkets and sports centers. In 2022, the latest available data, Sorli reached a turnover of 260 million euros, up 2.5%. At the close of that fiscal year, it had a network of 105 supermarkets, 15 cafeterias, three sports centers (Sorli Sport), three gas stations (Sorli Go), two restaurants, and a shopping center in Vilassar de Dalt (Sorli Emocions) which includes a 4-star hotel. Its workforce amounts to 2,000 people.
