The enemies of freedom (among whom the Supreme Court of the Spanish stands out) have decided that companies will be able to force workers to clock in every time they leave their workstation for the recklessness of having a coffee or smoking a cigarette. The first thing one is forced to denounce is this monstrous and invasive custom of forcing an employee to go through the concierge in order to notify any physical eventuality to Big Brother. Labor relations must be established based on trust and results, which is far from treating people like a herd. Public service, on the other hand, perfectly demonstrates how clocking in does not guarantee more efficient workers. Well, as if the panopticon for workers were not enough, now it turns out that human resources police will have the law as protection to find out the traitor who dares to smoke during working hours.
In a short time, if we continue with this dreadful drift, the destroyers of liberalism will ensure that excessive visits to the restrooms or an intolerable act of rebellion such as escaping from work to get some fresh air for a while are penalized. We are getting used to an administration (and a judiciary) of a very dangerous puritanism and, consequently, terribly illiterate. Equating the act of having a piti with leisure and work carelessness is an idea for morons. I always work when I smoke. In fact, when I smoke is precisely when I work the most. This and all my articles are favorite children of smoke and would not show any syntactic grace without the waiting times that my Davidoff cigars give me. A company is not unproductive because people spend five minutes sucking on some tobacco, an act that, in the end, gives peace to the worker to prepare to endure most of the bores they have as colleagues.
The same companies that have no moral qualms seeing their workers limit their health by devouring unbearable tupperware with overcooked vegetables in front of the computer, and the same companies that mistreat their employees by organizing nauseating weekends with painfully childish team building activities, are now wrinkling their noses when a worker spends three minutes smoking. While civilized countries like our enemies to the north have prohibited activities like those I just mentioned (it's not a joke; a French worker has managed to win a lawsuit against the company that fired him because he didn't adapt to their fun & pro policy), respecting a worker's right not to have to swallow supposedly fun activities, in this part of the world we penalize something as natural as lighting a cigarette.
We are dangerously getting used to forms of micro-totalitarianism that may now seem minor and even laughable. But the lack of freedom always begins with a joke or a crazy idea. A lazy worker can hide behind smoking and a thousand and one other activities in order to shirk their duties. But from there to exercising the logical (fraudulent) alehop of stigmatizing the cigarette as a necessary prelude to negligence, is of such ill will and desire for stigmatization that it is very frightening. Let everyone correct their workers when necessary, and let legislation allow all the agility and firmness desired when it comes to getting the most out of a work group. But allow us to smoke in peace, which is our best way of working and slowly killing ourselves. Let us work like this, for God's sake, you are a very old-fashioned kind of people. That said, while I correct the article, I will smoke.
