Seat, the Volkswagen group, and Iberdrola continue to strengthen their shared commitment to promoting the electrification of the automotive industry in Spain. After the Government's announcement to create a public-private consortium to develop the first battery factory in Spain with their participation, the three partners have just signed a strategic alliance to contribute to the development of a public charging network for electric vehicles.
According to estimates by the three companies, Spain will need an infrastructure made up of some 350,000 public urban and interurban charging points. In this regard, Iberdrola will deploy a plan that will include fast and ultra-fast charging, with the aim of serving the main corridors and cities of the country.
"We have the opportunity to lay the foundations for an industrial and sustainable future in Spain. To do this, the first step is to create an ecosystem for electric vehicles, and public charging infrastructure is indispensable," said Seat president, Wayne Griffiths. The automaker has also been asking for institutional support for months to achieve this, awaiting Volkswagen's allocation of the production of the first electric vehicle at the Martorell plant.
Likewise, the strategic alliance between the three partners includes the supply of renewable energy to the Volkswagen group's facilities in the Iberian Peninsula, making Iberdrola a reference energy partner. This agreement can be extended to other countries.
