Summer is officially declared open. Not only because of the high temperatures recorded these days, but because Damm has premiered its traditional summer campaign. The Mediterranean Sea and the paradisiacal coves of the island of Menorca are once again the protagonists of the spot, which this year will surprise many by the narrative style chosen: the actors speak of love in verse, as if it were a play, which represents a clear nod from the brand to the world of culture, heavily punished by the pandemic.
Damm has accustomed us to not leaving us indifferent with its advertising campaigns. A few months ago, the spot in which it gathered dozens of great Spanish chefs on the Costa Brava to contribute to the recovery of the hospitality sector, key to its business, caused a sensation. Now, it recovers the typical summer scenes and the emerald color of the Menorcan coves to highlight that culture, just as they said about gastronomy, is also fundamental in our way of life.
Mario Casas' fans are in luck, but the big surprise of the new Estrella Damm spot is the signing of the voice actress, director and singer Rigoberta Bandini, artistic name of Paula Ribó and a super dance phenomenon that emerged from confinement thanks to songs like Perra and Too many drugs. Bandini sets the rhythm for the ad with the song A ver qué pasa, which is sure to be one of the hits of the summer.
In this nod to culture, Damm's short film has drawn on a large cast of actors. In addition to Mario Casas, the protagonist is Mireia Oriol, the common thread of the story, whom we see bathing and walking through the paradisiacal Cala Turqueta, in the south of Menorca, an island that no longer needs to invest a single euro in promotion thanks to the Barcelona brewing group, which also chose its natural settings for the 2010 spots ---iconic for the song Applejack--- and 2018.
Along with Oriol and Casas, in Love at First Sight appear the actors Joan Amargós, Mónica López, Tamara Ndong, Daniel Ibáñez, Laia Manzanares, Nao Albet and the veteran Pep Cruz, who sails in a beautiful Menorcan llaut. All of them recite in verse their impressions about the love story they are witnessing on the beach, with phrases like "you have to believe in love", "my wounded heart asks for action again", "stay still or you will suffer", "I am witnessing a love without barriers" or "she normal, he handsome, the love story you expect is treacherous and failed".
The ecological emergency and the contamination of the Mediterranean with tons of plastic also form part of the announcement, as we see Joan Amargós striving to remove waste from the sea. Some will notice the scene of Mario Casas taking off his shirt and jumping into the water, but the stellar moment of the short film, almost six minutes long, is when the song A ver qué pasa starts playing and a gigantic maroon curtain falls over the waters of Cala Turqueta, which transforms into a theater, into the Teatro Principal de Maó, where the cast of actors finishes the play, receives the audience's applause, and happily shares an Estrella Damm. Let's enjoy the summer.
