The startup Pursang motorcycles has opened a financing round of 1.1 million euros to deepen the development of its own technology and design of new electric motorcycle models, as a basis for growth in the next three years.
The firm, driven by industrial designer Jim Palau-Ribes, makes added value its hallmark, which is why the team is working on the engineering of a versatile ECU ---electronic control unit that regulates the engine---, which can adapt to the best performance for each of the models of the Sant Quirze de Safaja (Barcelona) brand. This project adds to the design work that the brand has already carried out for the first production line of the Pursang E-Track model, which incorporates different motorcycle parts printed with 3D technology ---the screen support, the base box for the wiring, the headlight support, and the engine's insulating bushings---. These parts have been manufactured in 3DFactory Incubator of the Zona Franca de Barcelona, which has specific machinery for plastic and resin production, with six types of printing.
After 10 years working for major motorcycle brands in Europe and another 10 years at Seat, this industrial designer wanted the Pursang E-Track motorcycle to bring a classic of the motorcycle sector, the Bultaco Pursang, closer to the segment of current technologies ---a mythical model that was born in 1967 and forged a legend in the 70s and 80s of the last century---.
The first line of Pursang E-Track motorcycles is a model designed to move both inside and outside the city. It is powered by an 11 Kw Bosch motor fed by three 48 V batteries with a total energy capacity of 7.2 Kw (2.4 Kw per battery) allowing it to offer up to 140 kilometers of autonomy and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The battery recharging time is six hours. The braking system is signed by the national brand J. Juan, the tires are Pirelli Scorpion, and the suspension by the specialized firm Ollé.
Palau-Ribes: "The challenge for more urban electric models is to make electric batteries standard and interchangeable"To this first model of the brand, which through an industrial agreementit is manufactured at the facilities of the motorcycle producer Rieju, in Figueres (Girona), a trial motorcycle will be added ---"surely starting in 2024," explains Palau-Ribes--- and an e-Street model, more economical and lighter for the city, which is already being worked on. "The challenge for more urban electric models is to make electric batteries standard and interchangeable, which Bosch currently does not have. Therefore, we are waiting for technological advances in this regard to be able to definea city motorcycleand we trust that the international consortium of major motorcycle brands that has a project of these characteristics will have it ready as soon as possible," specifies this "passionate" about motorcycles.
Currently, there are 24 units of Pursang E-Track circulating in several European markets, thanks to online commercialization and commercial agreements to exploit the model that have been closed with distributors in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Portugal. The success of the demand has encouraged the Pursang Motorcycles team to start manufacturing 48 new units this autumn, which will be delivered between the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Between 2021 and 2022, 200 more units are planned to be produced.
Pursang Motorcycles will close this fiscal year with a turnover of 300,000 euros, which will increase to half a million euros next year thanks to the commercialization of the new 48 units, and "it will be higher if demand pulls sufficiently and we can expand production during 2022," explains Jim Palau-Ribes, who argues that "having the German giant Bosch to bring our models to life is a guarantee of success, and if we add to this that all manufacturing components are Spanish, we achieve what we wanted: to make quality and exclusivity our hallmark."

A reserved businessman regarding his partners, he explains that they areinvestors and entrepreneurs ---one of them French---concerned about the environment and defenders of new ways of consuming to favor the sustainability of the planet.
