PortAventura World opened its doors this Friday for the 2022 season with its sights set on leaving the COVID crisis behind. The leisure complex expects to recover international visitor levels this year and exceed 5.3 million visitors, breaking the record set in 2019. Of the figure obtained three years ago, more than half a million were travelers from other countries, especially France. In 2021, it received more than 3.2 million people, of whom 83% were national.
"We couldn't be more excited about the start of a season that we hope will be a record-breaker and in which we envision a definitive recovery with pre-pandemic levels. 2021 was a transition year for us, in which we managed to reach 75% of the visitor volume recorded in 2019. For 2022, we expect to exceed 5.3 million visits thanks to the recovery of the international market, especially the French and English," says PortAventura World's general director, David García.
The Tarragona resort has brought back all its shows for this 2022 season and added new ones, reaching 45 daily shows in high season. It has also incorporated a surprise, the world's largest decorated Easter egg, recognized by Guinness World Records. Another novelty of the season will be the inauguration of a ten-hectare photovoltaic plant, which will serve to provide a third of the energy used by the park.
In this opening, both PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land have resumed activity, in parallel with the hotels, which have already received the first guests of the season. As for hotel activity, the leisure complex also expects to exceed 2019 figures. Last year, it continued to expand its offer, adding 141 rooms after the expansion of Hotel Colorado Creek. Meanwhile, the reopening of Caribe Aquatic Park and Hotel Caribe, which is undergoing renovation, are scheduled for June 4.
