The startup of artificial intelligence Piper has raised three million euros in a financing round, led by international funds Seaya Ventures (Spain), Ignia (Mexico) and Shilling (Portugal). This has been the company's first institutional round, founded this same year with the aim of automating repetitive tasks of commercial teams to maximize their productivity and efficiency.
This first round has also attracted business angels from the technology sector, among whom are the founders of Jobandtalent, Juan Urdiales and Felipe Navío; the founder of Doctoralia, Albert Armengol, and the founder of Colvin, Sergi Bastardas. The startup also has the support of public institutions, such as the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) and Enisa, which have contributed a sum of half a million euros between them. In addition, the company has had the backing of the investor and incubator Antai Ventures since its launch, based in Pier01 of Port Vell and a portfolio made up of companies such as Glovo, Wallapop, Platanomelón, Yumminn and Vitaance.
Increasing efficiency in commercial management is the objective set by the three founding partners of Piper, whose base is located in Tech Barcelona. It was conceived by Sergio González, Rodrigo Burillo and Michele Trevisiol, all three with entrepreneurial careers in the digital sector and linked from various angles to data management. González has participated in companies such as Google and Twitter in sales-related roles, while Trevisiol has been in charge of AI models in companies such as Jobandtalent, and Burillo has dedicated himself to private equity from a more financial and sales-related profile. "I know very well the frustration" of having to choose between selling more or having the sales team stop doing so to manage data, says Burillo.
Thus, they opted to create Piper to improve the efficiency of these teams, especially through the automation of data entry in Customer Relationship Management softwares, or CRM, for its acronym in English. These CRMs allow managing customer data and a company's relationship with them, and doing so in a centralized way. They record, classify and segment customer information, and track the relationship with them, through tools such as a history of purchases, calls, emails and other interactions, such as contacts on social networks.
These programs also allow tracking a purchase or the contracting of a service to know the degree of customer satisfaction, and can predict future sales, analyze customer behavior, and design the commercial strategy. And, how does Piper optimize its use? By integrating into these programs and automating the filling of customer data, as well as using productivity tools based on artificial intelligence. These AI tools include the possibility of generating automatic call summaries; obtaining a list of contacts and pending tasks with any client instantly, and the possibility of generating follow-up emails for a call automatically, among other applications. Initially, they are focused on remote sales teams, Burillo highlighted, who did not detail revenue forecasts.
The company currently has the three founders and seven employees, and expects to have more than 30 people hired next year. For now, Piper is in beta phase and is being used by some companies. The forecast is to launch it to the international market in the coming months. Precisely the funds obtained from the financing round will be used to develop the product and prepare the commercial strategy for this international launch. They also plan to hire both developer profiles and design personnel and a commercial team. Currently, the company is made up of the three co-founders and seven employees, and the forecast is that next year it will have more than 30 people hired.
Antai partner Eduardo Salvo has highlighted that "the CRM market is in need of disruption and Piper presents an ideal proposal for it". For his part, Seaya partner Aris Xenofontos has assured that Piper has the potential to become a leader in its category. "We have been impressed by the team's product vision," added the Seaya partner, a firm that has accumulated more than a decade of investments in AI.
