august 12, 2024 - 18:20

Like every summer classic, the Perelada Festival returns this summer with big names in opera, classical music, and dance. The inauguration will be led by tenor Piotr Beczala and pianist Sarah Tysman, who will reach the audience with a repertoire of Piotr Ilitx Txaikovski and opera arias by Moniusko, Dvořák, Verdi, and Puccini.

Beczala and Tysman will open the 38th edition of the festival, which will continue on Saturday with an unexpected evening. Centered on Pedro Almodóvar's films, Pasión Vega will lend her voice to songs such as Piensa en mí, Quizás, quizás, quizás and Se nos rompió el amor. Also featured will be Rosalía's version of Lola Flores' A tu vera, and the most emblematic songs from classics like Volver, Hable con ella, La mala educación and Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, among many other films that will serve as the common thread for the festival's second night.

Another of the festival's most anticipated shows will arrive on July 26 and 27, led by Cuban dancer and actor Carlos Acosta. Jordi Savall will take over on July 30 with a concert in memory of the festival's former director Luis López de Lamadrid, and singer Julian Prégardien will perform the following day, premiering a new stage: the gardens of Celler Perelada. The space will be used as a new festival location, in a context where the new auditorium is still awaiting the completion of its renovation. Due to the works, the stages that will host the performances will mainly be the Carme church and the castle viewpoint, with capacities of 250 and 360 spectators.

The performances will continue on August 3, with the debut of pianist Yuncham Lim, who was scheduled to perform at the festival's Easter edition, but an injury forced her to cancel her performance. The Kebyart quartet will pair their performance with wine on August 4, while Sara Blanch will return to the festival the following day, consolidated as one of the great Catalan sopranos on the current music scene.

Director Júlia Sesé and composer Helena Cánovas will star in the evenings of August 7 and 8. The former will premiere the opera Don Juan no existe. Sobre lo que olvidamos y lo que permanece, while the latter will make current Catalan composers dialogue, accompanied by the Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Música. Chinese pianist Yuja Wang will close the 13 nights of the festival on August 11, which has had a budget of 2.2 million euros, also including its Easter edition.
