The biotech startup Onalabs has closed a new financing round, the first one carried out through the equity crowdfunding platform Capital Cell, with which it has raised 1.2 million euros. The funding obtained will be used to deepen the technological innovation of its medical devices and to start their manufacturing and commercialization.
To advance in this phase of the project led by Elisabeth del Valle and Xavier Muñoz, Onalabs is testing its non-invasive, remote, and smart devices, focused on monitoring chronic patients, athletes, and people with diabetes. Through an agreement with Andorra Recerca + Innovació, it will carry out a pilot test in the neighboring country with the device for remote monitoring of physical and biochemical parameters of elderly people and chronic patients who require follow-up by healthcare professionals. In a second phase, the biotech company will incorporate devices intended for athletes.
The startup has developed a technology based on microfluidics, biosensors, and physical sensors that allows its medical devices to measure traditional clinical parameters through the skin and sweat that until now were obtained through a blood test, thus converting sweat into an intelligent biofluid, and the skin, into a data platform. With its use, medical professionals can have remote control of different variables of their patients' health status (respiratory and heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation, glucose, lactate, pH, sodium, chloride, alcohol, cortisol).
In parallel, Onalabs has launched this month the process to obtain European and Spanish certification for its wearables, already clinically validated by reference medical and sports centers, such as the CAR of Sant Cugat del Vallès and the Institut Nacional d'Educació Física de Catalunya (INEFC).
