Crowdfunding platforms have become the best ally for small investors interested in entering the capital of all types of emerging companies. With a minimum investment of 500 euros, it is possible to try your luck in the biotechnology and health sector through Capital Cell, an online investment platform led by Daniel Oliver. In 2021, this Barcelona-based company, located in the Sant Pau Modernist enclosure, managed to raise 19.5 million euros to finance 19 startups, a figure that represents a 39% growth compared to 2020 and marks a new record in the firm's trajectory, born in 2015.

Of the 19.5 million channeled, 12.9 million were contributed by more than 6,000 small private investors who allocated an average ticket of 2,122 euros from their savings. The remaining 6.5 million were subscribed by institutional or more professional investors, such as family offices or funds like Inveready or 101 Ventures. "In 2021, Capital Cell has consolidated itself not only as the leading platform in participatory investment, but also as one of the most important investors in Spain in health and biotechnology," highlighted Oliver, general director of the financing platform and a biologist by training.

Since its launch, Capital Cell has participated in 67 financing rounds totaling 59 million. Its system has 12,000 private investors registered, who are given the opportunity to invest in emerging companies in the biotech sector that are seeking funds to finance their growth and are selected by the platform. Last year alone, Capital Cell analyzed more than 300 companies, rejecting almost 94% of the projects to minimize risk and ensure that investments are interesting opportunities.

According to the firm, Capital Cell "has led half of the 20 most prominent rounds in 2021 in Spain in health and biotechnology," with an average size of one million euros per operation. Among the projects financed in the last year are Amadix, Aortyx, Elem, Time is Brain and Kintsugi.
