MAT Holding maintains a significant growth rate despite the difficulties it has had to face in the last year, such as problems suffered in the supply chain, the generalized rise in prices, drought, and an economic environment with rising interest rates. The Catalan multinational of products and solutions for the agriculture sector and efficient water management closed the 2022 fiscal year with a turnover of 364 million euros, a figure that represents a 9% growth compared to the previous year.

In the last five years, the group led by Pau Relat has increased its business volume by 50% thanks to its acquisition strategy and its specialization in two sectors that are increasingly gaining strategic importance: water management and the modernization and digitalization of agriculture. "Agriculture and water are linked to some of the most important challenges, such as the scarcity of agricultural and water resources due to demographic and climatic changes," says Relat, who also holds the presidency of Fira de Barcelona.

According to the CEO, international business already accounts for 65% of MAT Holding's sales thanks to the growth experienced in countries like India, where its turnover has soared by 62% thanks to the plan to improve local water channeling infrastructures promoted by the country's Government. Another significant growth has been registered in Mexico, with a 58% increase derived from an important liquid conduction project for a company in the energy sector. In the domestic market, MAT Holding has advanced by 16%.

With 85 years of history, more than a thousand employees, and presence in 140 countries, MAT Holding, owned by the Matosas family, structures its business around two major divisions. The one that brings together its activities in the water sector has its headquarters in Israel ---a country where it bought the company ARI Optimal Flow Solutions in 2020--- and is the fastest growing, with revenues of 220 million, an 11% increase. This division includes the companies Aquestia (new brand for its international business created in 2021), focused on water conduction and control; Regaber, dedicated to professional irrigation systems; Hidroglobal, dedicated to hydraulic projects, SFT, a filtration systems company.

In parallel, the "plant health" division has grown by 6%, to 144 million. This activity is carried out through the phytosanitary company IQV, one of the global leaders in the manufacture and commercialization of copper salts for agriculture.

"In 2022, MAT Holding has consolidated its position as a benchmark in agricultural knowledge and modern crop management," said the group based in Parets del Vallès. In this regard, the company has created two new businesses to complement its offering in this area. On the one hand, it has launched a service for modernizing agricultural farms to improve their profitability and crop sustainability. "We become the only transformer on the Peninsula that assumes the risk of modernization and returns the farms to their owners at full capacity, while sharing our agronomic growth with them," explains MAT Holding.

The multinational has also launched Vegga, a digital application for crop and farm management aimed at modernizing the sector and implementing precision agriculture.

MAT Holding's strategic plan aims to position itself as a benchmark in innovation and digitalization for the agricultural sector and also plans to accelerate its growth in the United States and India, in addition to continuing to grow in Spain and Israel. This plan includes continuing to carry out acquisitions of companies that are complementary to the group's current businesses.
