Grand Canyon returns to La Villarroel after triumphing at Grec 2025. A theatrical proposal that presents us with a family that, suddenly, sees their young daughter accused of terrorism because of a rap song. The story sounds familiar, doesn't it? And the reality always surpasses fiction.
Pere (Joan Carreras) is a man passionate about music who, as a young man, had a rock band with his friends. But the passing of the years has erased his dreams and, currently, he is a family man, alcoholic, without stable work, but with the same passion for music. What has happened between that dreamy boy and the adult man we see on stage? Life, maturity, responsibilities that become our own jailers.
Ruby, the daughter, is a trap singer who embodies all that spirit typical of youth: the desire to fight, the desire to build a better world, the hope that it is possible to achieve it, and the freshness and innocence that so characterize young people today. And her way of expressing herself is through music, like her father, but current music: trap. But her freedom is confronted with the reality of the world: we are free up to a point, the point where you touch those who rule, those who dominate the world. And that is what Ruby encounters, who, suddenly, will find herself in a situation where her freedom can be completely taken away from her.
Children can teach parents
One of the messages I liked most about Grand Canyon is that sons or daughters can teach fathers and mothers. Because there may come a time in life when you find yourself battered, tired, exhausted. But that energy of youth, that freshness, that strength, also coexisted in us. And remembering it, reconnecting with it, is always a breath of fresh air.
This is what happens to Pere who, after being overwhelmed by the situation he is experiencing, sees himself reflected in his daughter, in her energy and her strength. He relearns to be in life, to live with courage, not to bow his head.

An impressive cast
In Grand Canyon we find a cast of ten. From the delicate situation of Mar Pawlowsky, the prostitute on the road, to the unbearable character of Guillem Balart who, as a joker, goes way too far, to the attitude of Mireia Aixalà, the tired, fed-up, but in love woman, and the strength of the daughter, Maria Morera.
But Joan Carreras continues to devour the stage. For his energy, his charisma, his scenic strength... It is impossible to take your eyes off this interpretive beast.
Music that is a success
Grand Canyon is a work full of rhythm. Narrative rhythm and musical rhythm. The sound space that has been designed is, simply, impressive. Rock music from the 70s, with mythical figures like Janis Joplin, fill the stage and make us relive that golden age where music was capable of giving us goosebumps with just the first notes.
In short, Grand Canyon is a very good theatrical proposal, with a very NECESSARY message, as it reminds us of our strength and the need not to let life sink us.
