The docks of the Port of Barcelona have hosted the first call in Barcelona of the MSC Virtuosa cruise ship, one of the most modern vessels of this shipping company. The ship, which was delivered in February of this year, has arrived in the Catalan capital after carrying out local cruises in the United Kingdom during the summer.

The company has scheduled a total of 72 calls by seven different ships at the Port of Barcelona until the end of the year and, maintaining its commitment to the city, for next year it foresees 163 calls, which will represent a growth of 20% compared to 2019 and more than double that of 2021.

Fernando Pacheco, general director of MSC Cruises in Spain, has pointed out that "Barcelona is one of the most important ports for the company in the Western Mediterranean" and that proof of this is that it was the first shipping company that last June docked in the port of Barcelona to resume its operations after the forced halt imposed by the coronavirus pandemic since March 2020.

Barcelona was also the city chosen by MSC to make the first voyage of the MSC Seashore, the company's new flagship and the only newly built ship that has operated in Spain during the 2021 summer season.

The shipping company received the MSC Virtuosa in February, one of MSC Cruises' most innovative and environmentally advanced vessels and part of the Meraviglia class generation of ships, which are characterized by having an iconic 112-meter-long promenade with an LED dome at the heart of the ship.

The MSC Virtuosa has 19 decks and since September 22, it has been operating routes with a 10-day and 9-night itinerary through the Western Mediterranean; in mid-November, it will move to Dubai. Departures from Barcelona will also take place on October 17 and 26 and November 5.
