Endesa has begun work to expand the electrical grid of the Port of Barcelona with an eye on the celebration of the America's Cup sailing race. The Port Authority of Barcelona will invest 600,000 euros in works that will reinforce the grid at different points of the infrastructure. Specifically, action will be taken where the strategic points of the event will be located, such as the area for televisions, the Village, or the teams.

The competition, the oldest in the world and one of the sporting events with the greatest economic and media impact, will begin in August 2024, but the six teams will already be installed in Barcelona this summer. With this schedule on the table, the energy company plans to finish some of the works by the end of spring. In this way, the different areas of action have been divided between those that are priority, which must be completed in the coming months, and those that are less so, with the forecast of finishing them during the third four-month period of this year.

According to the agreement signed with the Port Authority of Barcelona, Endesa will extend almost 300 meters of new low-voltage electrical connections throughout the port to power the new electrical panels that need to be installed. Likewise, it will install new transformers, close electrical rings, remotely control a transformation center, and replace interior cells. All of this will reinforce the existing grid and increase the installed power by 3,900 kW.
