The last big festival in the city is just a few hours away from raising the curtain. After Primavera Sound and Sónar, Cruïlla 2024 faces a new edition with a lineup of more than 40 artists who will perform on four stages, Estrella Damm, Occident, Vueling and Johnnie Walker, in addition to the Cruïlla Comèdia by Vallformosa Stage, where several comedians will perform. There will be headliners such as Maria Becerra, Trueno, Avril Lavigne, The Kooks, Amaral, Pet Shop Boys, Oques Grasses and The Tyets.
From Wednesday to Saturday, the Fòrum park will once again be filled with music and, one more year, the festival led by Jordi Herreruela will champion its eclectic nature, being able to mix names like Chucho Valdés with Maria Escarmiento, or Oques Grasses with Avril Lavigne. For its director, a diverse edition that becomes "a reflection" of the city that hosts it, cosmopolitan and with its own identity. Of course, without giving up an international vocation, betting on the attendance of Barcelona residents and the participation of local artists.
There will be highlights such as reconnecting with the adolescence of many, when some believed they could get close to being a Sk8er Boi, but also witnessing shows like Albert Pla's, discovered by many after Los Javis's La Mesías, or the indefatigable Ladilla Rusa, a classic to close a good night at Cruïlla. A great national diva like Amaral from Zaragoza, immersed in the celebration of 25 years of career after a mythical concert at Sonorama, will surprise with some preview of her new album, without forgetting her long list of classics, valuable because they survive the years and unite generations.
But it's better to go by parts. On Wednesday, Maria Blaya will be the first to start performing from the Johnnie Walker stage on a night of urban music dedicated to the youngest audience, with a strong presence of Argentine artists such as Maria Becerra and Trueno. Also noteworthy will be the performances of Funzo & Baby Loud ---they will do one of the last concerts of their farewell tour within the festival--- or well-known groups such as 31 Fam, Figa Flawas, Ysy A, Rojuu, María Escarmiento, Kora, Sila Lua and Love Yi. Maria Becerra will close the first night of the musical event from the Estrella Damm stage, sponsor of the festival since its first edition.
The second night of the festival will combine Latin rhythms and rumba. On Thursday, big names such as Puerto Rican Olga Tañón, or Chucho Valdés: Irakere 50, the band that marked a before and after in Latin jazz, will parade across the Estrella Damm stage. Also not to be missed are Ladilla Rusa, Albert Pla, Azucarillo Kings and La Plazuela. Artists like Oscar d'Leon, Yadam, Grupo Niche, Bia Ferreira or Morochos will complete the night.
Friday will be the big night for Avril Lavigne, who will return to Barcelona twenty years after her last concert in the city. The singer, so popular for many during an adolescence that now seems distant, will be accompanied by The Kooks and Kasabian on the Estrella Damm stage. The Occident stage will not be short of acts, with Depedro, Rayden, Amaral and Delaporte. Selah Sue, Shinova, La Paloma, Maestro Espada, Malmo 040, Besmaya, Nunatak, Ganges, Gonzalo Hermida and Eva Sola will complete Friday night.
Friday will be the big night for Avril Lavigne, who will return to Barcelona twenty years after her last concert in the cityFinally, on Saturday, Pet Shop Boys, the legendary duo formed by Neil Tennant and Chris Low, will bring their greatest hits tour Dreamworld to Cruïlla. On the Estrella Damm stage, the main one, will have The Tyets as opening act and then Oques Grasses will take over, intensifying the path towards that neighborhood party that Cruïlla always turns into. It will also be the night of Ginestà, Roba Estesa and Al·lèrgiques al pol·len. On the same day, The Smashing Pumpkins will come to Barcelona to present their new album ATUM. The last day of the festival will also feature artists such as Aurora, Johnny Marr, Calexico, Peter Fox, !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Marala, Zetak and Xarim Aresté.
Silent disco included
As if that weren't enough, this year Cruïlla will incorporate the Silent Disco stage, a new sound and light installation that will feature a program of local DJs that can be heard through wireless headphones ---they can be acquired in exchange for a deposit that will be returned---. The structure arrives for the first time in Barcelona after premiering at the popular Burning Man Festival, held in Nevada (United States), and represents the first collaboration between Cruïlla and Fira Tàrrega.
The Silent Disco stage will be active for four hours each day and will be located in the Loophole, an artistic light installation inspired by the geometric shape of the Earth's magnetic field. Shyne, Nahoomie and Selectya Glossy will be featured on Wednesday with urban music, while Álex García Amat, Jungleo and Andy Grey will do so on Thursday with Latin rhythms. Friday will be a night of mixes with DJs Fonki Cheff (Spain), Nickodemus b2b Eddy Plenty (USA) and Niskerone (South Africa). Finally, Saturday will be the turn of a good list of hits with Mimsy, MBODJ, NoN Project and La Diabla.
