Caprabo closed its fiscal year last January with a turnover of 842 million euros, a figure that represents a growth of 6.6% in relation to the 790 million euros earned in 2019, when it experienced a 13% drop. The chain, which has just partially changed hands, has a network of 300 supermarkets and opened a dozen new points of sale during 2020. The company has more than 6,000 employees.
Of the 35 million in the investment chapter, about fifteen million have been allocated to new openings and to the transformation plan of its supermarkets, which are now 60% reformed according to the brand's new store model. Another 20 million have been invested in the new logistics platform for fresh products launched in the ZAL of the Port of Barcelona, where the company has also moved its offices from L'Hospitalet.
The Eroski cooperative distribution group announced last March the sale of 50% of Caprabo's shares to the EP Corporate Group, owned by the Czech businessman Daniel Křetínský. The supermarkets that Eroski owns in the Balearic Islands have been included in the operation, which also become 50% controlled by this investment company, present in the capital of other European supermarket chains such as Metro, Sainsbury and Casino.
