Barcelona Global has made an assessment this Tuesday of the last academic year, practically coinciding with the proclamation of the new mayor of the Catalan capital. During the celebration of the general assembly of partners, the president of the entity, Maite Barrera, has asked for "more ambition" and has announced the agenda that, soon, she will present to the new mayor, Jaume Collboni, to whom she will ask to form a government that is committed "to rigor and agility".

During her speech before more than 300 partners, Barrera asked for "ambition" to position the city in strategic areas and "build a winning Barcelona". "Given the current challenges, cities play a fundamental role and have extraordinary problem-solving power. We must be very ambitious," she stressed. "Barcelona has a superpower that differentiates it from other cities, and that all the cities we compete with envy: a committed, entrepreneurial civil society oriented to collaborate and forge public-private alliances to make Barcelona an attractive city for investment and impact talent, a business friendly city," the executive underlined.

According to the president of Barcelona Global, the new municipal government must focus its efforts on eliminating barriers for talent and attracting investments, defining a stable framework in urban planning and housing, decongesting city mobility with sustainable and consensual measures, betting on quality tourism and commerce, and promoting cultural diversity and projecting it internationally. Likewise, Barrera has announced that Barcelona Global is preparing a document that analyzes solutions for Barcelona to have an intercontinental airport, "necessary to attract international investment and talent, and that respects the ecosystem of the area."

During the assembly, held at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), a review was made of the projects achieved and future challenges with the aim of "boosting Barcelona in strategic areas of high transformative impact, developing new events, and attracting investment and impact talent." In this regard, after the success achieved with the attraction of the America's Cup, the entity has highlighted as its most recent action its involvement in ensuring that Barcelona has the first plant in Spain dedicated to the design and prototyping of advanced material chips, a project that would be built on land in Cerdanyola del Vallès, next to the Alba synchrotron, and that "would transform the semiconductor ecosystem and place us at the forefront of Southern Europe." The project report to launch this plant has already been submitted to the Commissioner of the Perte Chip, who must decide on the granting of the necessary public investment ---around 350 million euros-- for it to become a reality in 2026.

Through the investment attraction agency Barcelona & Partners, directed by Montse Puig, Barcelona Global has attracted nine companies to the city this year, generating some 1,300 qualified jobs. These are companies related to the sectors of the gaming, advanced industry, mobility, and life sciences. "Barcelona Global continues to work to ensure that Barcelona consolidates major sporting events, such as the America's Cup; others extend their commitment, such as the Spanish F-1 Grand Prix; and the city is the protagonist of new events, such as theRyder Cup, which today has obtained the support of the central Government", has added the association led by Mercè Conesa.

The Government of Pedro Sánchez announced this Tuesday its support for the Costa Brava-Barcelona 2031 bid, which foresees the Ryder Cup being held at the PGA Catalunya complex, located in Caldes de Malavella. "This is the most important team golf competition in the world, a tournament that generates great media interest and attracts visitors, which benefits the host country in sporting, tourist, and economic terms," states the central executive, which has committed to guaranteeing the participation of players, facilitating necessary visas and authorizations, and providing "efficient transport infrastructures during the celebration of the 2031 Ryder Cup." It is also planned to declare the golf tournament an event of exceptional public interest.
