There were no doubts, but Bad Gyal has reaffirmed herself as the great star of the last night of Sónar. The artist has returned to the festival transformed into a global icon of reggaeton, deambow, and dancehall. The Pussy K Mana did not waste a second on the Fira Gran Via stage, without making anyone wait and without giving a break in a long hour that began with Blin blin. And, from there, the rhythm did not stop going up with butt shakes.
Bad Gyal, the name behind which hides that very young Alba Farelo who wants to spend the summer at home, has proven herself a professional who measures every moment of a complete show, with breathtaking movements that accompany any of her hits, which can even already be considered classics, such as Nueva York, Zorra or Flow 2000, winning over a devoted audience from the beginning. Oh, and this long list of great songs has been achieved by the artist from Vilassar de Mar without having yet released her first album, scheduled for this year.
The Catalan artist has performed for the first time at Sónar by night, after passing through Sónar by day in 2017 and 2019. In fact, in her first year at the electronic music festival, she even offered a mini concert in the subway, at a packed Universitat station that forced the show to be cut short to avoid security problems given the more than 300 fans who were waiting for her.
It was clear from afar that hers was a successful career, like the one her sister, Mushkaa, is now starting. But the eldest of the family has gained momentum in recent years, becoming a headliner at major festivals, not only Sónar, but also Primavera Sound. And she already has her first Sant Jordi, this year, with a full house of 17,000 attendees. She thus becomes one of the many artists that Sónar sees grow, starting at Sónar by day at ungodly hours until they crown the Sónar by night lineup, as happened last year with the triumphant return of C. Tangana and Nathy Peluso.
Bad Gyal, sharing the night with others like Eric Prydz, Alizzz, La Zowi, and Samantha Hudson, has put the golden finishing touch on Sónar's last night. The festival has gathered more than 120,000 attendees from 100 countries on its 30th anniversary, a figure slightly below last year's, with two thousand fewer people. The prominence of its program of talks and conferences, Sonar+D, has been highlighted, once again claiming Barcelona as a creative capital, attracting 3,500 professionals, below forecasts. As this is a special year, Sónar's curtain has not been lowered this Saturday, nor in its long early morning, but the festival will sign the soundtrack of La Mercè's pyromusical to celebrate its maturity.
