Applus joins the list of Catalan companies that have returned their registered office to Catalonia after moving them to other parts of Spain due to the independence process. The inspection and certification company moved it to the Catalan capital in 2024, after the company Amber BidCo acquired it at the end of last year.
The company, formed by the TDR and ISquared funds, relocated the company's domicile to Barcelona then, as a result of a company restructuring, according to La Vanguardia.
Amber BidCo completed the acquisition of Applus in November, when the company was delisted from stock exchanges where it had been present for decades, including Barcelona and Madrid.
This return of Applus' registered office joins that of other companies that have recently done so, including Molins, Banco Sabadell, Fundación La Caixa and Criteria Caixa.
This move by the multinational is due, as in other cases, to "the political, democratic and economic normality" of Catalonia, according to Josep Sánchez Llibre, president of Foment del Treball. Llibre recalled that the return of companies became the objective of the employers' association when he assumed its presidency six years ago; now, he believes that more companies will return, as defended by the Illa Government.
