The Sagrada Família describes as "a historical event" the placement of the last missing piece to crown the Tower of the Virgin Mary, 138 meters high. The star that will now shine in the sky of Barcelona has the shape of a dodecahedron, with 12 pyramidal points emerging from each side. Its diameter is 7.5 meters and it weighs 5.5 tons.

This is how the glass and steel star looks at 138 meters high.

Located above the apse of the temple, the star will also serve to illuminate the altar with light that will filter through the 800 windows that make up the tower. While during the day it will let sunlight pass through, LED spotlights at each of the bases of its arms will illuminate the sky at night. Likewise, it has been designed to withstand bad weather. It is even prepared to resist the impact of a 100-kilo body.

The inauguration of the Tower of the Virgin is scheduled for December 8, with the central act of the Eucharist, presided over by Cardinal Joan Josep Omella, the blessing and subsequent illumination of the star, scheduled for seven in the evening.

The Tower of the Virgin will be, for now, the tallest in the temple designed by Antoni Gaudí, awaiting the completion of the construction of the Tower of Jesus Christ, which will add 176 meters and will be crowned by a four-armed cross 17 meters high and 13.50 meters wide.
