To invest in about 40 pre-seed companies that want to make a name for themselves in the technological entrepreneurial ecosystem. With this objective, 4Founders Capital has launched its third fund, which will inject 65 million into startups with tickets ranging from 200,000 to two million euros.
For now, the management company has raised 44 of the 65 million that will make up this third fund, with which it manages more than 100 million euros under management. The fund, which includes family offices, digital entrepreneurs, and institutional investors, has already started with two operations: on the one hand, it has participated in a 1.3 million euro round of the startup Punto Post, which seeks to transform last-mile logistics, and in another of Mogu, focused on accelerating sales for travel agencies.
The venture capital management company prioritizes investing in technological companies in expanding sectors, such as fintech and artificial intelligence (AI), as detailed by the managing partner Marc Badosa.
"We focus on projects driven from Spain, and also on initiatives by Spaniards who are undertaking from other parts of the world, with global ambition," adds Badosa, who promoted 4Founders Capital in 2017 together with Atrápalo co-founder Marek Fodor, eDreams founder Javier Pérez-Tenessa, and also the founder of the SeedRocket accelerator and formerly of Emagister, Jesús Monleón.
For this reason, 4Founders maintains a close relationship precisely with SeedRocket, which amplifies its contact with the entrepreneurial and technological ecosystem, and makes it easier to identify startups in very early stages for investment. The four co-founders now lead the management company's third fund along with business angel Paula Blázquez.
The third fund aims to achieve results comparable to the first two launched by the management company. The first of these, launched in 2017 with a capital of 12 million euros, has registered good performance that has not only led to "recovering all the capital," but has exceeded a return for investors of 20%. The fund, which has seen startups such as the Barcelona-based Holded, which was sold for 200 million in 2021, currently has 13 companies in its portfolio, including Flanks and The Hotel Network.
For its part, the second fund was launched in 2021 with 50 million euros, and has 38 startups in its portfolio, in which companies such as Embat, TaxDown, Viterbit, and Dealcar stand out. "The second fund is also pointing in a very good direction," guarantees the co-founder of the management company, who aims for this third vehicle that has just been launched to follow the same direction.
