FINANCING THE FUTURE

Wiloo, children's dental health that diagnoses through Artificial Intelligence

The brothers Carlos and Ramon Xam-mar have developed an AI-based model that they want to implement in a network of centers. The first of them has already opened in Terrassa, and has had the support of ICF with 338,000 euros

To create a network of children's dental health centers focused on the child's experience. This is the goal of Carlos and Ramon Xam-mar, whose project, named Wiloo, has a distinguishing feature: it has a model based on Artificial Intelligence that assists in diagnosis and treatments.

This model "consists of a neural network that, based on photographic records, diagnoses and indicates to professionals the steps and instructions they must follow, with safety and with a prediction and projection of results," explains Carlos Xam-mar, who emphasizes that all treatments are reviewed and supervised by dentists.

Thus, the program developed by both brothers, aged 25 and 27, allows "to offer very high quality regardless of the professional, so the same quality is achieved whether in a large city or in a small town, where it is more difficult for talent to arrive."

After developing this model, they want to promote a network of their own centers under the Wiloo brand. The first of these has opened in Terrassa, which has had the support of the Institut Català de Finances (ICF). Specifically, the ICF has supported the project with two lines of the ICF Eurocrèdit, one long-term of 238,000 euros and one medium-term of another 100,000 euros.

The ICF's support has been directed to financing the facilities of this first center in Terrassa. It has done so through ICF Eurocrèdit, a line endowed with 320 million euros co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union, to finance SMEs that want to promote projects or investments to grow, open up to new markets or strengthen their activity. After this first opening in Terrassa, the Xam-mar brothers aspire to continue growing in Catalonia through a network of their own centers.

Now, the project has a staff of five employees at the headquarters, including technical personnel and dental professionals who supervise that the program works correctly. In addition, in Terrassa it has a team of five more people, and has an area manager who will coordinate it as new centers open.

Technologizing the family business

The project draws from the family trade: the father of both entrepreneurs owns several pediatric dental health centers that prioritize the child's experience, through a playful model that aims for children to develop a positive relationship with the dentist and overcome their fear.

After taking different paths with their respective careers —Ramon towards engineering and Carlos towards investment banking—, both brothers opted to "return home and give a tech approach to the family business," driven from Lleida.

With this objective, they focused for a year and a half on the development of their AI-based program, and "there is no other program globally doing the same," assures Xam-mar. This is because the development "starts from a completely different perspective, because what works for an adult does not work for a child."

"The child has been forgotten because it's complicated, and they also need to be put at the center," defends Xam-mar, something he assures they achieve with their project. "We have a very powerful experiential model, and we've put a lot of tech into it, which also makes it scalable."
