Turisme de Barcelona kicks off the reactivation of the sector

The organization gathers 500 people at the Llotja de Mar to celebrate that the city is leaving the pandemic behind

Tourism has been one of the sectors most affected by the coronavirus crisis, and the city of Barcelona has been a clear example of how this crisis has paralyzed the arrival of international visitors, leaving a deserted center with closed shutters. Now that COVID is beginning to be considered under control, although outbreaks are still visible, Turisme de Barcelona wanted to celebrate the return to normality with the different agents of the sector.

Administrations and companies participated this Wednesday in the Nit del Turisme de Barcelona. It is the first time that this event has been held, created with the aim of boosting the sector and which has managed to bring together some 500 people in the Llotja de Mar.

"This is a party we deserve," defended the first deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni. Together with the president of Turisme de Barcelona, Eduard Torres, and the president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Mònica Roca, Collboni explained that this crisis represents an opportunity to redefine the city's tourism model and shift towards one that provides more added value.

"It is necessary that we all believe that Barcelona has first-rate assets to do so," remarked the general director of Turisme de Barcelona, Marian Muro, to which Torres added that the Next Generation funds can play an important role in digitizing the sector and making it more sustainable. "The cards Barcelona holds are the best," he concluded.

Among the attendees at this first Nit del Turisme de Barcelona were the president of the Gremi d'Hotels de Barcelona, Jordi Clos; the businessman Joan Gaspart; the president of the Junts municipal group in the Barcelona City Council, Elsa Artadi; the president of the Port de Barcelona, Damià Calvet, and the president of Amics de la Rambla, Fermín Villar.
