What steps must be followed to achieve excellence when pouring a glass of Voll-Damm? This is the common thread of Los 5 Pasos (The 5 Steps), the new short film that Damm premiered this Monday to promote its double malt beer. Conceived again by creative Oriol Villar, it is the fourth installment of the Doble o Nada (Double or Nothing) saga, and once again stars Luis Tosar and Luis Zahera, directed by filmmaker Alberto Rodríguez, who also returns.
Set in a solitary and inhospitable industrial port warehouse, the short film is presented as a thriller in which five waiters face a challenge with no second chances: learning to correctly and with maximum precision pour a glass of Voll-Damm to be able to enjoy each of its nuances, since "not all beers are the same."
Tosar plays a ruthless character in charge of instructing a group of waiters chosen from "the worst of the worst," with tough training for 200 days aimed at getting them to serve the perfect pint. In this process, he has the help of the character played by Zahera ---who this year received a Goya for his role in As bestas---, and who subjects the contestants to different tests.
The five steps in which they must excel are presented as a meticulous ritual: correctly selecting the glass; ensuring it has the correct temperature; first discarding the damaged foam with "a precise flick of the wrist"; pouring the pint with an exact 45-degree inclination to facilitate "the beer sliding smoothly and maintaining its carbonation"; and the final opening of the tap to form a perfect crown of cream "for the queen of pints." One of the five waiters who undergo the test, this year the most advanced, is Artur Busquets, protagonist of last year's short film, alongside Tosar, where he had to learn to appreciate each of the simple ingredients of a potato omelet.
