53 domingos at Teatre Condal: the return of Cesc Gay
Teatre Condal will host from September 9 to 27 the premiere of 53 domingos, the new stage proposal written by Cesc Gay. With a cast led by Julián López, Pepa Charro, Xavi Mira, and Candela Serrat, the play presents the conflict of three siblings who meet to resolve the future of their 86-year-old father, whose behavior is becoming increasingly incomprehensible.
What begins as a family reunion quickly turns into a succession of reproaches, old wounds, and shared secrets. True to the filmmaker and playwright's incisive and everyday style, this proposal turns small frictions between siblings into a comedy about responsibility, the passage of time, and the disagreements experienced within the family environment.
La truita at Teatre Poliorama with Emma Vilarasau and Jordi Boixaderas
The Teatre Poliorama will revive from September 9 to October 18 La truita, a text that was already seen in the last edition of Grec and is directed by Ferran Utzet. Emma Vilarasau and Jordi Boixaderas lead the cast, playing a mature couple who have decided to leave the city to manage an ecological bakery in the countryside. But tonight, the family gathers to celebrate the husband's 65th birthday with their three daughters, their partners, and their grandchildren.
The plot takes an unexpected turn when the middle daughter, converted to lacto-pesco-vegetarianism, rejects her mother's traditional fricandó and asks for a trout to be prepared for her. From that situation, the meeting takes a turn, and generational clashes, different philosophies of life, and unresolved frictions within the couple and family begin to emerge.
Quim Masferrer revives Temps at Teatre Borràs
From September 9 to October 4, the Teatre Borràs will bring back Quim Masferrer and his Temps, a tragicomedy originally premiered at the Temporada Alta festival in 2012. Fifteen years after its presentation, the performer revisits and updates a monologue based on a premise: informing a man that he has exactly ninety minutes left to live.
That hour and a half transforms into an exercise of absolute freedom, where the character takes stock of his career through irony, lament, revenge, and direct complicity with the audience. The new proposal delves into human fragility and the perception of time.
La Casa de Bernarda Alba at Sala Ars Teatre
The Sala Ars Teatre will once again present its free adaptation of La Casa de Bernarda Alba, directed by Albert Pueyo, from September 13 to October 25. It is a proposal concentrated in 60 minutes that aims to condense the atmosphere of repression, greed, envy, and longing for freedom felt in the great work by Federico García Lorca.
The cast features Anna Toro in the role of Bernarda and Roser Mateo as Poncia. The result is a small-format production that pays homage to the last work completed by the author from Granada before his death.
La del manojo de rosas at Teatre Apolo
The Teatre Apolo will host a brief season from September 10 to 12 of the version of La del manojo de rosas by the company Milnotes. The proposal transports Pablo Sorozábal's zarzuela classic to a pin-up aesthetic inspired by the 40s and 50s, with period hairstyles, pompadours, and pastel-toned costumes à la Grease.
Despite the visual redesign and the three-level illuminated set design, the production maintains the original text and melodies. Additionally, it features a live orchestra to create a large-format musical spectacle and preserve the dialogues of the classic comedy.
Barcelona thus inaugurates a new week of theater where comedy, great classics, and the return of acclaimed productions will be the protagonists on stage.
