Paradox Interactive's commitment to Sitges consolidates Catalonia's leadership in the emerging video game sector. The company specializing in the development of strategy video games for computers and consoles has chosen this Catalan city to open its new video game studio, with an area of 200 square meters. The company plans to incorporate about thirty technical profiles throughout this year, such as programmers, user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) designers, and graphic artists.

The Swedish company established its subsidiary in Spain at the end of 2020, but it has not been until the beginning of 2021 that it has started operating. The subsidiary is named Paradox Tinto and will specialize in the development of the video game Europa Universalis IV, which reached one million sales in 2016.

To establish itself in Catalonia, the company has received support from Acció, the agency for business competitiveness of the Ministry of Business and Labor, and from the Department of Economic Promotion of the Sitges City Council.

According to the head of the studio in Sitges, Johan Andersson, the multinational decided to establish itself in the municipality due to its "ecosystem of creativity and culture, very close to the world of video games." In this regard, the city's Councilor for Economic Promotion, Guillem Escolà, highlighted the importance of the choice: "Opening the municipality to leading international companies will help generate qualified employment, and position us as an optimal municipality for companies and entrepreneurs."

Paradox Interactive, founded in 1999, has studios in the Nordic countries, the United States, France, the Netherlands, and now also in Catalonia.
