The board of directors of the Port de Barcelona has approved extending the concession granted to the Grimaldi Lines group, which operates a ferry terminal linking the Catalan capital with Italy on the so-called Costa pier. According to the agreement, the Grimaldi Barcelona Terminal will gain new spaces on the Contradique pier that will improve the operation of the current facilities, dedicated to the transport of passengers, vehicles, and trucks loaded with all types of goods. The objective is to facilitate the shipping company's growth in existing traffic.

The extension of the concession will allow Grimaldi to gain an area of 27,522 square meters corresponding to two plots located on the Contradique pier. The company will invest four million euros to carry out the adaptation works of these plots and their urbanization. In addition, the port has extended the concession of the Grimaldi terminal ---initially for fifteen years---, with an additional six-year extension.

Grimaldi connects Barcelona with the ports of Savona, Civitavecchia, Porto Torres (Sardinia), and Tangier (Morocco).

On the other hand, Port de Barcelona has also authorized Baleària to locate a temporary maritime station on the Adosado pier. This shipping company, which connects Catalonia with the ports of Palma de Mallorca, Alcudia, Ciutadella, Ibiza, and Formentera, plans to build a new terminal in the south of the Adosado pier where it will centralize all its activity, now divided between this pier and the Drassanes Maritime station, on the Barcelona pier. This project, however, is still pending processing, and to improve customer service, the port has granted an eight-year concession to set up a temporary terminal intended to serve passengers embarking with their vehicles from the Adosado pier. These facilities will have an area of 453 square meters and a parking lot of 2,687 square meters.
