The gender gap that characterizes the technology sector is one of the great pending issues. The Barcelona-based startup CodeOp wants to reduce it by offering courses only for women, trans, and non-binary people. Created in 2018 by Katrina Walker, the programming school has already trained more than 150 students, and most of them have found work within six months of completing the training, with salaries higher than they previously had.
CodeOp has just closed its second round, for an amount of 1.25 million euros, led by Ship2B Ventures and completed by Banco Sabadell with 250,000 euros. Investors such as the CEO and founder of Desigual, Thomas Meyer, and the Berlin entrepreneur Heiko Rauch have also participated.
The resources obtained should serve to extend its training model to more cities, replicating the success of the campuses in Barcelona and Malaysia. The startup has registered revenue growth above 127% year-on-year and customer growth above 197% with the pandemic. Now, it wants to reach new countries in Europe and Latin America. Among them, it plans to enter Brazil this year and Mexico and Germany in 2022. The goal is to reach ten campuses by 2025.
