The Port of Barcelona has initiated the tender for a geotechnical campaign to obtain detailed information on the characteristics of the land in the Moll Prat dock area and the Moll de l'Energia. This is the first action to be developed within the process of concentrating all activity related to container traffic in the southern area of the port, specifically in the Moll Prat dock.
The transfer of container traffic to the area furthest from urban areas will allow minimizing the environmental externalities of port activity in population centers and providing new spaces close to the city for uses more focused on citizens. On the other hand, the concentration of container traffic in a single area of the enclosure will allow optimizing port operations themselves and creating synergies among the different actors in the logistics chain.
The marine geotechnical campaign is also an essential step to expand the number of berths at the Moll de l'Energia. These new berths are necessary to increase unloading capacity and organize traffic by product type in these facilities. All this will mean offering a better service to both ships and terminals operating in the infrastructure.
The project that has been put out to tender has an estimated execution period of 20 months and a budget of 5.9 million euros. It includes the design, planning, and control of geotechnical reconnaissance work, as well as the interpretation of results, coordination work, and the drafting of reports, among others.
